Game 33: Leafs @ Bruins - Mar. 25, 7:00pm - TSN, TSN 1050

I just got on here so haven't read any posts. Nice to see us get the point but defensive gaffes cost us along with the 1st line being non-existent. Carlyle benching Frattin also a mistake. The kid has been buried on the 3rd line since he came back from injury. At least he goes in the corners and bangs guys around. JVR and Kessel are like to marsh mellows in the corners. I would have sat JVR. What was Phaneuf doing on the tying goal and we stink in the shootouts but does Reimer know what a poke check is. Find he is too stiff all the time when the shooters are coming in. James it ain't working. Try something different once in a while. Would have been nice to steal 4 points from them. Think it would have instilled a lot of confidence in the team and gotten over the hurdle of beating the Bruins but all in all 3 out of 4 points. Think all of us are happy with that. 1st line picks it up down the stretch we'll be fine.

JvR has been transparent far too long.  I've ragged on Kessel over the years for disappearing but van Riemsdyk is worse.

Im not going to be negative. We took 3 of 4 against boston.. a team that murdered us nightly last year.. We have made progress..Good job. But have to get two points tomorrow against Florida or this is useless

I commented on those 2 a while back and I have more of a problem with JVR. Reason being his size. Doesn't use it at all. Would be a better player if he had a little bit of toughness. Both shy away from the corners I feel but Kessel has always been like that. Due to his size and goal scoring I can live with that. I think that is what hurts our first line. Need a winger that crashes and bangs and isn't afraid to muck it up. Kessel and JVR don't fit that bill and because of it the line is a liability defensively. If they ain't scoring to make up for it, yikes.

Happy to have 3/4 points against Boston.  Shoot out is still stupid, but whatever.  It was a hard-fought game.  What's much more annoying is that Ottawa and Jersey went to OT, which means an extra point between them.  Blargh.

Quick word about JVR since there appears to be a discussion on the subject: I think he deserves some credit for being good on the screen.  He's screened in a number of goals this year without getting his name on the scoreboard for it.  I agree that he could use his size a little more, but that's one way to put it to use.  He seems like the sort of guy who is best in front of the net, and his line hasn't been creating a lot of rebounds.  Most of his screens have been on the PP, if I recall.

Hope the team has enough gas in the tank for Florida.

Another shootout loss? After blowing a 2-0 lead? Why does it feel like a regulation loss? :(

Oh wait, a loss is a loss. The bonus point is a bonus.

Makes sense Dion.  Stare at the guy and make a lazy poke check.

I was watching the NESN feed of the game tonight. On the second goal the play by play man said " If anyone can tell me what Dion was doing on that goal, call me and tell me". Phanuef did not look good in this game.

I didn't see much of the game after the first period, but was it really lopsided enough that Yahoo gave Boston all three stars?

Hamilton had Gardiner beat. If Phaneuf went to cover Bergeron then Hamilton could have carried the puck around the net and went 1 on 0 with Reimer. Phaneuf was really left out to dry there.

I don't agree with them. Bergeron was fantastic. Scored the tying goal and was completely dominant in the draw. He deserved the first star. Chara and Seguin were pretty quiet I thought actually. Scoring the game winner in the shootout is the only reason Seguin would have been picked.

Not really sure who I would replace them with though.

You're taking this a little too seriously. He's just having a bit of fun.

And yeah, there's a lot uglier words.

Agreed the shootout is clown play but god did Reimer look bad on both shots especially Bergeron.

And Reimer should have had Bergeron's back hand goal to tie the game 2-2. What a weak goal.

Agreed JVR is invisible out there. For a big man, he is playing houdini out there.

We had one line going, and we took Boston to a shootout. I'll take it. Someone mentioned above we took 3 out of four from Boston. I like that.

The skills competition to get an extra point is annoying but going into this home and home I think most of us would've been happy as hell at the prospect of the Leafs getting 3 of a possible 4 points
