Game #37 - TOR @ CAR - Dec. 29th - 7:00pm - LeafsTV

Please go to the NHL all star voting and vote for Thomas, Reimer does not deserve to be there. This will just serve to make us more of a laughing stock and provide more fodder for all the leafs bashers out there.
That is so true, I actually think he'd refuse the invite should he win, it would be utterly embarassing.

7-3-1 in October
11-11-4 the rest of the way

Not absolutely disastrous but the Leafs pace has dropped to 90.8.  The 8th spot in the East has averaged 92 points over the last 6 seasons post-lockout, and only once as it been below 92 points (88).

Watching Phaneuf on the replay of that 3rd goal just makes me want to cry. He is not a defenseman, let alone a captain.

Kessel had 0 shots tonight.  Completely unacceptable from your best player and "sniper."

He seems content with passing for weeks now.  He isn't entering the slot snapping wristers anymore.  He needs to get back to that!

If I was burke I'd make a trade tomorrow, completely unacceptable loss.  Good teams, decent teams and teams with an ounce of character don't lose this game against that Canes squad.

Who do they blame trade to make it all better?
I don't think you blame anyone, but a trade makes a statment about the 'status quo' not being good enough which is the rhetoric he has been spouting about thi finally being a group that he believes can win.  He has admitted to having good offers on the table.

I think trades should be made without the patellar reflex involved, fwiw.

Kessel at least caused the 3rd goal with the shot Lupul tipped. Agreed he's not at his best lately, but I'm not as miffed about him as I am about Phaneuf. How do you bench your captain?

Man, pretty brutal night for the D-men. I thought Phaneuf had a pretty poor game. With Liles out the defence just looks really shaky. Aulie, Schenn, and Gardiner were all over the place. Reimer didn't help much other than the stop on Staal near the end of regulation. Tough night for a fan but I guess we're lucky to get a point.

Someone said the injury to Liles is the most significant of the season, even more than the one to Reimer.

I also agree that it's time for Gardiner to visit Ricoh for awhile.  I suppose when Komisarek comes back.

Schenn, I have no idea what to say.  He's been awful the past few games after it seemed like he was solidifying.  If he EVER pinches again under ANY circumstances Wilson should keelhaul him.

Schenn is just following his captain's example.

It's pretty frustrating to see Schenn trying so hard on the offensive end but failing both offensively and defensively. He's been a big liability. I know he's still "young" but he's been in the league for a few years now. He should really know better.

@mirtle
Leafs now have four wins in their last 13 games (4-6-3). And they fall to 9-11-4 since they were first overall back on Nov. 4.

I recall wanting to punch Andy Frost that night when they had the mini 1st place pre-game celebration.

It's not knee-jerk, it's making a statement to an impressionable group of young athletes.

We disagree obviously.

It is if you're basing the reason for making it on one game, I'm not sure what the message benefit is in the long run nor do I see much reasonable impetus for a quality trade from that. There are other less drastic ways of making a statement to the players too.

He has no offensive capability, and never will.  That's been the scouting on him since forever and it has been proven correct.  Since Phaneuf can't/won't play hardnosed defense, Schenn has to.  The only way he's effective is when he makes the shortest possible outlet pass (and never up the middle), pastes guys, wins puck battles on the boards (which he hasn't been), and clears the net.

Incidentally, on the tying goal the defense should have knocked those guys on their asses even if it meant a penalty.  You can't give them 5 whacks, not ever.

Couldn't agree more. Especially when the guy standing there watching is your "monster" captain.

Nice James, my apologies.

Taking it back?

How was that goal possibly Reimer's fault?

That's true. It was due to his body being a non-solid.

That was a nasty shot though, no?
Nasty in that it was right at Reimer?  Reimer had the time to get over, it just went right through him.  Goaltending is brutal right now, weak goals and no miraculous saves to be seen.

It was a fast rising one timer, that was not an easy save to make for any goalie.
