Line-up Notes

TOR
?James Reimer will likely start for Toronto
?Forward lines listed are from Friday's practice. Carlyle had McLaren, Colborne, Orr, Frattin, and Hamilton all playing on the 4th line. It's unknown which two will sit but Caryle did indicate Colborne might play
?O'Byrne was paired with Gardiner at practice and it would seem like they will sit, although there is a chance O'Byrne will replace Kostka and play with Liles

NJ
?Martin Brodeur will start his 8th straight game since returning from injury
?Steve Sullivan apparently still plays in the NHL and was traded to the Devils at the deadline. He'll make his debut with the team on Saturday

Seems weird to play the Devils in NJ on a Saturday night.

I'll say.  Hockey Night in Newark?  :P

Anyway, a big game.  A loss will leave the team wondering, just a bit, about the possibility of a slump.*  A win would demonstrate some resilience after a bad let-down game and loss of Lupul.  Needless to say, hoping that we can solve Marty.

* Count on Healy to run this storyline into the ground....

I can't see both McLaren and Orr in the lineup at this point.  I am sure Frattin plays and likely Komarow is bumped to the 4th line.  One never knows though....

I thought we played 20 back-to-backs a year because the Leafs never play on the road on a Saturday night?

Lets hope for a win, and a quick return for Lupul. I do agree that this one is very importent to win, so we dont lose our confidence.

Welcome back to the NHL Colborne, now go show us what you can do at this level with 5 mins of ice-time with 2 gorillas in hockey skates.

Recipe for success.

Yeah, welcome back JoCo. Seeing him back has put a little wind back in my sails after it went dead after the Lupul injury.  :-\

Thanks CTB for the AWESOME game day thread!!!  It is all the info I wonder about before a game...including the streams!

All that typing and programming (tables, logos, colours, etc) is deeply appreciated.  Just like the CHL prospects thread that I check regularly but don't post in that often.

You earn your stripes with Carlyle, see Kadri, Nazim.

I could be wrong, so please correct me if I am. But I don't recall Kadri playing much if at all, on the 4th line.

If you say so. I also don't recall Kadri playing much, if any time, on the 4th line with McLaren and Orr.

As for "earning your stripes", I don't recall what got Frattin an immediate start on the 3rd line, Bozak the #1C job or Holzer as many starts in a row as he got when he was the worst D-man on the ice.How about Kostka getting games over Liles ?

I mean, I know Carlyle wants people to think it's the case in theory, but in practice it seems quite different.

Colborne showed this season that when he was given little ice time the production wasn't there. Ice-time increased and he became a pretty productive player. If he's going to play on this team, he'll need to be in a role with players he can feed the puck to in order to be effective. At least give the kid a chance to succeed.

As far as I know he's not a defensive stalwart and he'll be playing with goons. What will he be able to show with the skill set he has? That he's ill suited to the role he's being given?

Let's get a W in the swamp... with Brouder and everything else.

Go Leafs Go... they are like 4 Ws away from the promisse land.

The Devils are a bubble team playing poorly, 2-4-4 in their last 10. If they have anything left in them, they'll be playing hard tonight. It's like a 4 point game.

Its about a four and a half hour drive from my front door to the rink (without traffic)... I have a strong urge to say to heck with it and jump in the car and go..Tix are easy to get.. But gas tolls etc can get expensive. hmm..oh and GO LEAFS GO

So with Clarkson the only guy to likely drop the gloves and if smart would only do something like that with Fraser.  Why oh why RC do we need Orr and McLaren both in the lineup tonight?  I am hoping this is some kind of sick way to throw the media in a frenzy and tonight we see at least one of them sit.  I think it would be fun to see Colborne between Hamilton and Frattin on the fourth line, they all know each other from the Marlies.  I know there isn't a chance in h@ll that would ever happen but at least sit one of the bash brothers, come on.

I considered that at the time to be more of a promotion for Orr than a demotion to the 4th for Kadri. But point enough I suppose.
