Game 42: Buffalo Sabres vs Toronto Maple Leafs W2-0

It's always hard to beat the same team back to back...so i do kind of doubt that the leafs will win both of these games...but how nice would it be if they did ...i still remember buffalo doing the golf swing that one year...when a loss against them put the leafs out of the playoffs..and it seems like there's been a few other years where losses to this team have made the leaf's chances fairly bleak ....while not quite the same time of year ..two losses by buffalo would make the playoffs that much more unlikely for them.....kick 'em while they're down

The site I linked in my reply to Zanz shows the Sabres at an 8.4% chance to make the playoffs.  They have been really accurate in the past.  Two losses for Buffalo would probably chop that in half.  Then it's on to burying the Habs, then the Sens. :)

Ill never forget that golf swing by Andrew Peters.  I was pissed.  If I was at that game I probably would have done something very stupid to a Buffalo Fan.http://youtu.be/349LLDpOtyE

"Buffalo and the Leafs have split a pair of meetings this season, with each club winning on home ice. The Sabres have taken 14 of 19 overall in this series, but they've also dropped three straight in Toronto."

Buffalo likes beating the Leafs.

The leafs are only 4-7 in the division so far - that has to improve. Good news is that there are only 2 games left with Boston.

VS NE: 4-7-0
VS SE:  6-5-1 (more games than against own division so far)
VS ATL: 5-1-1

I'm right behind you, CF.  If they somehow took the next 4 I'd be giddy.

I'll make this prediction right now: if we win the next 2, we'll make the playoffs.

I really don't understand how they calculate those stats.  The Leafs apparently have over 70% chance of making the playoffs, but Jersey who is currently ahead of us only has a 56% chance?

Edit: Montreal who is currently behind Buffalo has a 21% chance to Buffalo's 8.4% chance?

Maybe they look at the schedule and figure Montreal has an easier schedule than the Sabres.  They could be factoring in Sabre losses to the Leafs the rest of the way  ;D

In the upper left corner of the site, they have 'Weighted' and '50/50' Methods for calculating their stats.    'Weighted' is selected by default.

EDIT:
[quote author=www.sportsclubstats.com]
The weighted method takes the opponents record and home field advantage into account when randomly picking scores, so the better team is more likely to win. The 50/50 method gives each opponent an equal chance of winning each game. Both methods let an appropriate percent of games end in a tie or go into overtime in leagues where that matters.

The weighted option is the only one that makes sense to me, even though, technically speaking, each game is an independent variable whose outcome has no relation to anything that preceded it.

Hope this is the Miller on tap tonight

lol yeah that was kinda funny, would have been funnier if it wasn't from such a loser. I don't see any career NHL playoff stats for him. I guess he didn't get to play. Awwww. Shoulda went golfing. :)
