Game 43: Toronto Maple Leafs @ Buffalo Sabres L3-2

it was always going to be hard to take two games away from the same team..in a row no less..but the leafs did the unusual and took the first one..so who knows ...but expecting a 5th and 6th win in a row does seem like pushing it ...i have to figure they lose at least one against buffalo here or against the rangers tomorrow...

I'm never confident when the Leafs go into Buffalo. :(

WHY, why do you do this every game?  you talk like a good leaf fan and then game day you turn into mr. dark cloud. Is this part of your pre game ritual?  I have to laugh, cause you are so consistent with your Eyore getup.

I hope you watch the game. This team is playing well and try to be Mr. Optimistic.

Don't mess with my pre-game preparation man.

fair enough.....LOL.  lets beat these duds tonight.

I think Gus can handle back to back games.  Gus is young, and seems to thrive on lots of work.  Give that ticker of his a workout.

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Leafs always seem to be the team that others break out of a funk against.  They were always 'good medicine' for a slumping team.  That last game against Buffalo was the first in recent memory where I haven't felt that would be the case.  The Leafs are playing with so much confidence and I think they're going to bury Buffalo tonight.

4-1 Leafs - Gus in net - Kadri and Kulemin with 2 of those goals (one of them on the powerplay after a sucky Kaleta revenge penalty on Kulemin).

You're like the opposite of me.  I have this gnawing burning pain in the pit of my stomach thinking about tonight's game and how the Leafs will get blown out.

I have a bad feeling about tonight.  This game just means so much to the Sabres, and we beat them the other night... they are in danger of really putting themselves in a hole with a loss tonight.  We also traditionally have so much trouble in Buffalo (remember last year when Crabb scored that shorty with 10 min left to beat Buffalo 2-1?  That was great!).

A win tonight would be absolutely fantastic.

I'm in the same boat.  I'm hoping for a win but expecting a loss.  Especially with the Leafs on a 4 game winning streak, i can't remember the last time this team won 5 straight.

Beginning of last year?

Nope.

Just looked it up.  Last 5 game winning streak was between Jan 27th 2006 - Feb 6th 2006.  Raycroft won all 5 in a row.

I agree we're in tough on this one considering it's in Buffalo and they need the win badly.  I just think a split in 2 tough games this weekend is what we should hope for.  After that back to winning all our home games for January.  :)

That's a bold statement considering there's lots of hockey to be played.  I'm less worried about Buffalo than Pittsburgh.  Leafs are currently 3 up on Pittisburgh in 9th.  Should all the chips fall into place and Leafs win / Pens lose tonight that's 5 full points up.  Still not insurmountable but better than the current 3.  IF Leafs/Pens both win, it's still only 3 points.

I must have been in a deep freeze. I don't ever remember liking Raycroft for a 5 game stretch

They haven't won 5 in a row to begin a year in franchise history.  I dream that this team will be motivated by potential:  the potential of setting franchise records, burying teams below them in the standings, starting a trend of winning against certain teams or in certain buildings.  The worrisome part being, I've been a Leaf fan for so long I know the Hockey Gods are fickle when it comes to my beloved team.  :-\

:D :D  Leafs had 91 points that year and just missed the playoffs.  Islanders got in with 92.

What year did they either win the first 10 in a  row to start the season or maybe it was 10 undefeated....

Leafs went 10-0 to start 1993/1994.  I believe Rob Person scored an OT winner in game 10.  Correction, OT winner was in game 8 to keep the streak going.
