Game 6 - Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins L6-2

While that might have been true the past few seasons, I think it's a little too early to be making that argument this year. The way I see it, they weren't particularly worse in the first period tonight than they have been on previous nights.  But Boston is a better team than the others the Leafs have faced, so they've been able to capitalize.

I don't know. The players aren't robots. They can't just delete the memories of playing in front of him. New season or not, those memories are going to be effecting them on a subconscious, if not a conscious one.

Maybe, but that still doesn't explain why they've started slowly each game this year, this one notwithstanding.

I'm not sure it really matters. You're not allowed to grab another player's stick regardless of where it is. Pretty clear penalty.

No, it doesn't, but, that's a different, larger issue type of discussion.

Whatever, like you said, it doesn't matter, they should have called the hook first.

I disagree. All it really tells me is that, like all other players, they're human. Lots of teams struggle in front of goalies they're not confident in and then turn around and play well in front of goalies they do have confidence in.

But it's not like Gustavsson has been horribly bad. Or, at the very least, within the bizarre mirror universe that is the Maple Leafs goaltending situation of recent years Gustavsson has been par for the course outside of Reimer. I'd agree with you if we were talking about Toskala but we're not.

If Gus' play is what makes them shiver in their boots then they need to, as the song says, man up.

This is what hitting the post feels like when you're desperately trying to get back into a game:

I've noticed Phaneuf's been pretty efficient this season so far in pinching to keep the puck in.

He really seems to have significantly (and quietly) stepped it up defensively.  It's good to see.

So Kadri gets 2 for an "Illegal check to the head".

This implies there is a legal check to the head.
