Yes, Bowen, you homer.  The Vezina winners in the crowd actually do have a right to boo this guy's 5th or 6th straight crappy performance.

? I don't think he's been crappy tonight, so far at least.
He looked pretty bad on that last goal, but it would only be a tie game of they hadn't hung him out to dry twice in the first 2.5 minutes.

I'll go back to some comments in the 1st period -- were the first 2 his fault?  No.  Do you need to have your goalie bail you out more than Reimer has?  Yes.  He did it once on the Kessel/Phaneuf giveaway in the 2nd -- full marks to him for that.  But you can't let the first 2 shots go in.

This reminds me of Belfour's last season in TO when he was rapidly going downhill.  There was a string of games where he gave up a goal on the first shot, and then others in quick order.

Again, those were quality chances, doesn't mean he was crappy.

He could be better but more to the point so could have Schenn, Komisarek and Connolly.

No argument from me.  But there's only 1 guy who's put together a good run in net for us the last 3 months, and his name isn't James Reimer.  Despite that epochally awful goal he gave up, Gustavsson did get us a point that night by playing good in the 3rd.

Much to hang your hat on?  No.  But it's all we have now.  I'd give the net to Gus and hope for the best.

Burke typing away on his phone..I wonder what about...I know what I want it to be about

Dearest Eliza,

In the months since Vicksburg fell I have many a night grown weary and forlorn at the circumstances this road has taken me to. At times it feels as though the devil himself is nipping at my heels as we make our way through the hills to rendezvous with Lee's regulars. Oftentimes, I feel a weakness from my soul and have to fight the temptation to cast all of my fortitude asunder and cry out for mercy from my torment. I carry on, steeling at least my countenance to whatever discord surrounds me. I fear the only thing that prevents such abject cowardice on my part is my care for the men in my charge. Ragged things, some missing boots and all short on shot and powder, I feel their morale is but the thinnest of strings, stretched taut by the distances we have marched in our regrettable retreat. Very few of them feel as though any eventual victory is still within our grasp and news of Sherman's march on Atlanta has the spirits of all but the most resilient among them. Please know that the only thing that gets me through the day is thoughts of you and my beloved Virginia.

Sincerely,

Brian P. Burke

PS I am still not contemplating a change in my Coach.

Makes me wonder who Ronny throws under the bus after this game...must be Luke's turn tonight because it DEFINATELY is not the horrible coaching, the crappy defensive scheme, or the power play that is inconsistent.

I noticed also that Ronny gets away with 4 years of BRUTAL coaching and gets an extension (hey Brian are you hiring?) and it seems to carry over to his players. Hey MacArthur that was a stupid penalty in the offensive zone that cost us momentum and a goal...have a seat at the end of the bench for a while. In Ronny's world he's back on the ice right away.

If we have the best defensive coach in the league on our minor league taem isn't it time to have him running the big team and have Ronny go off somewhere and retire?

Overall not a great effort in a must win situation

It?s pretty much a certainty that it won?t happen. Still though, it would be a nice change.

I dunno, I'd like to see how Burke reacts in the offseason if they don't make the playoffs.

It's more that in general I think he was the wrong guy to assemble this team, just like Wilson is the wrong guy to coach them.

So who was the right guy?

Doesn't matter. Yzerman maybe?

Just anyone with the patience to go through with a rebuild. Burke could take over from him at some point, like he did in Anaheim. Theres no question that he did a great job with what he did there.

Both Union and Confederate soldiers used to pin their names to their coats before battle so that their bodies could be identified after they were killed.  They knew going in that they were going to be killed.  There's a lesson in there for the Leafs somewhere.

Wilson has been coaching the Leafs since the Civil War? Well it sure seems so.

PS. Outstanding.  ;D

Gloom, despair, and agony on me. Deep dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all...Gloom, despair and agony on meeeee......

Musical interlude....

MacLean in the second intermission. "Too many giveaways, defensive lapses, soft in their own end etc etc etc. We have been talking about this since October".

Doug more like 3+ years.

And the world's worst PK strikes again.

What a useless clearing attempt.

This is an exclamation point on the season.
