Game 68: Flyers at Leafs, 7 p.m.

A spirited effort by the Leafs in all areas -- yes, even Crabbe's dropping the gloves to fight Simmons.  Smart stick/poke checking by the Monster.

In spite of everything, still very frustrating outcome.  (sigh).

Too bad Bozak hit the post in the first shootout attempt. Might have changed the dynamics of the pressure on the goalie after that. Ah well, sick move by Giroux, why can't Leafs players do that in a SO?

The SO is a sideshow.  I really couldn't care less about the outcome once it gets to that.

More important is that the Leafs played a very good defensive game from top to bottom.  I don't have game stats to back this up, but it sure seemed like they had fewer turnovers, and less running around in our end.  Philly is one of the highest scoring teams in the league and we limited their chances all game.  Gus was good, but he didn't steal the game either because we didn't expose him to a series of ridiculous scoring chances.

If this is indicative of the way Carlyle wants them to play, it's good news.

Kessel is just not a clutch player... you might as well give Rosehill the shootout opportunity!

I'm pretty sure the Leafs record is very good when Kessel scores. Your comment is just nuts and a byproduct of a Leafs loss. Really, Rose hill? Really?

I would agree that Kessel isn't clutch.  Rosehill comment was obvious hyperbole, not to be taken seriously.

So everybody knows the famous non trade that happened with Philly in 2008.

Thomas Kaberle for Carter and a 1st

Marek recently revealed on his podcast (Feb 15) that the above was actually the second trade proposal.

What was the initial trade you ask according to his sources?

Thomas Kaberle for Claude Giroux + high pick

Sadly, that's not nearly as bad as the trade proposal that John Shannon said that Glenn Grunwald told him that he'd rejected years ago that would have shipped out Vince Carter and Antonio Davis for Steve Nash and a young Dirk Nowitzki.

Kessel getting mad at the cameraman after his missed breakaway was kinda funny.

Not only that but he was yawning pretty well at some point while sitting on the bench.

That was hilarious, especially because the yawn itself could happen to anyone, obviously, but the exaggerated arm-stretch made it epic.

5 game winning goals, another 6 that brought the Leafs back into a tie after trailing, a bunch of others that either were the first goal of the game or helped get a comeback going . . . nope, not clutch at all. ::)
