I've been a fan for 40 years so I know how you should cheer and when you should.

Remember - fan for 40 years.

Funny, me as well. I can remember collecting Leafs hockey cards 40 years ago.

I should point out I'm not even close to 40 years old.

Denial isn't helping you. You're worse than a crack addict. Face it, you're closer to 40 than you realize, the sun is yellow, and you should not cheer for happiness, but sadness is going to happen anyway.

I like puppies.

Probably because it's irritating to listen to fellow fans cheer for the very outcome that will actually hurt the team's future.

It's irritating to listen to people tell me it's irritating to enjoy watching my team win or score goals.

I am trying to think of an analogy accurately portray of how when people are EXTREMELY happy about an event (like a goal or win, getting a puppy, etc) that can instantly switch to the complete opposite and become EXTREMELY IRRITATED when people suggest that they shouldn't be happy about said such event...and I don't mean days later, I mean right in the middle of the utter happiness.

Just go with the crack analogy.  I'm going to incorporate it into my next paper, too:

"How Canadian Constitutional Law is Like a Crack Addiction"

I'm sure it is. I was just replying to Deebo's question and explaining why some people might care about how others enjoy their hockey.  I'm sure it's irritating from both sides.

Also, I'm not saying it irritates me.  I think this whole situation is hilarious.

Wendel's crack theory gets my vote for post of the year...possibly of all time.

I didn't realize Potvin was a 40+ year old beach creeper either, but it makes perfect sense.

All this thread needs is an opera singer

And higher pick doesn't always mean better player, say the Miami heat lost a few more games in 2002-2003 and ended up drafting at 2 instead of 5, good chance they end up with Darko Milicic instead of Dwayne Wade.

Or in the Schenn Draft, we got Schenn at 5, Buffalo got Myers at 12 and Ottawa got Karlsson  at 15.

It's not really as cut and dry as if we lose games we'll definitley get a better player in the draft.

While that's completely accurate I would still rather have my choice of what prospect to pick as a future building block, rather than let other teams get their first choice.

Everybody would but I think there needs to be some measure of a reality check here. The difference between drafting 7th and drafting, say, 4th is not nothing but you're talking about a slight percentage in difference when it comes to those draft positions yielding a top flight player.

Getting all aggro because someone's cheering for the team irrespective of that slight difference seems to be entirely joyless.

This has got to be one of the most ridiculous extended conversations ever.  The purpose of this site is to have fun and enjoy oneself.  No one should be criticizing anyone else for enjoying themselves.
