Being a fan of this team is very, very strange.

I'm not sure of what to make of the fact that it seems like > 50% of the crowd is hoping we tank and > 50% of the crowd is mad when we lose.

50% of me is hoping we tank, and the other 50% is mad as hell when we lose.

Like a S&M Mistress , it make ya feel good and bad at the same time

Watching that Buffalo goal again is HILARIOUS.  The puck goes in the net and the ref is still looking at the scrum of players lying in the crease.

Yep, didn't lose sight of it at all.

I was just going to post this. His head snaps back when he see the puck in the net all of a sudden. If the situation was different I'd be really really choked. That was the most incredulous call I've seen against the Leafs and as we all know we've seen plenty.

Yeah that was a total BS call with the refs looking to try and help out Buffalo anyway they can.  Keep it close, and the interest in the games continues for a few more days!

Had that game meant anything at all for the Leafs I would be super upset, but I actually wanted the Leafs to lose, why couldn't they have blown it in regulation?

Yet still.... epic collapse... they have learned well from the Raptors.. maybe its just an MLSE thing.... coincidence? Perhaps

:)

I've watched a fair amount of hockey over the years and cannot recall seeing a scrum going on that long with the puck out of sight without a whistle.

I agree about that scrum goal cw.  I've never seen such a ridiculously long whistle without the ref knowing where the puck is.

I guess that makes up for the goal against the Sabres that shouldn't have counted in the Stanley Cup Finals that they lost?

Watch Komisarek in the replay. He basically hold the Buffalo player down by his face. Can't believe he got away with that.
I blame Crabb.  If he lies flat on the ice behind scrivens we wouldn't even be having this conversation.  ha ha.  Brutal call and makes you wonder about match fixing in hockey.  It happens in other sports

I just watched the highlights. I was surprised that the whistle didn't go in that scrum either. Just plain weird, particularly given the pic shown above.

I was more interested in the goal where (don't remember the Sabre player's name) pushed Scrivens' pad - twice - to get the puck across the goal line. I thought that you couldn't do that - unless it was because the puck was loose? To me that looked like a heck of a lot more than a follow through from a shot - it looked like he meant to push the pad across the line.

Anyway, Brooks Laich of the Caps has guaranteed that the Caps will make the playoffs, so Buffalo should just give up now. Or the Panthers. One of them. You'll see. Or something.

Watch Foligno, number 82, right at the start of the play.  He and Komisarek race into the corner for the puck, and in the process he grabs Komi's stick and pulls him to the ice with it - that should have been a penalty, and it's the reason why Komi dove in and started doing CPR on the side of Foligno's head.

The refs didn't see the holding penalty because Phaneuf, accustomed to screening the goalie for no reason, got confused and screened the linesman instead.  An easy mistake.

Foligno got the assist on the tying goal and 1st star on the night.

Watching the replay, you could see the puck fumbling around, so it could be justified that way as to why it was not blown dead.  That was a replay however, which we got to see a few times from our vantage point.

If the ref however goes by the premise that any puck he loses sight of he blows the play dead, then I have no clue how it wasn't blown many seconds before.  The puck was lost under the sea of bodies from the above view the ref had.

I do not recall ever seeing a scrum where all 10 skaters were that closed in on the puck.

That is actually the rule (rule 85.3 I believe) that the ref is supposed to blow the play dead if he loses sight of the puck in a scrum.

and the rule:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26508
85.3 Puck Out of Sight - Should a scramble take place or a player accidentally fall on the puck and the puck be out of sight of the Referee, he shall immediately blow his whistle and stop the play. The puck shall then be faced-off at the nearest face-off spot in the zone where the play was stopped unless otherwise provided for in the rules.

Missed call. Case closed.

Good work Potvin29!  :)

Here's the video:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2011021190

By my count, the puck was out of sight for about/roughly 10 seconds. Even the play by play announcer commented "where's the puck?"

A clear look here:

EDIT:  The puck goes in at around 0:14, and the ref doesn't even point until about 0:16.  That's at least 2 seconds of delay before he even notices it was a goal, and all sorts of other players and fans react before he does.

Conspiracy?  Sorry, nothing to see here folks, move along.
