Studies have shown that gaining the zone with possession leads to more chances/goals than dumping it in, so his goal is partly to track who is good/bad at that,
He just posted a 9-game snapshot of the Leafs focusing on the D. It shows the number of times opposing players gained the zone carrying the puck or versus dumping the puck in when on the side of that D or when that D was guarding the line. Now, it's only a 9 game sample, but I thought it might be of interest to some people and you could then follow his Twitter account if you're curious about how it all turns out.
