Golden Knights @ Maple Leafs - Nov. 8th, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for Marner.

Man, they all owe Kallgren a beer for helping them get a point.

Sometimes I just wonder what they're thinking. Like they can't just go all offense immediately and get caught the other way. This happens so frequently.

I just don?t understand what Matthews and Marner were doing.  Matthews was hallways to the Vegas zone while we didn?t have possession of the puck.  Marner just standing and Rielly flat footed.  That trio has been horrendous this year

Matthews was going towards the man with the puck. Marner and Rielly were too far apart watching.

Ultimately after a horrible road trip we just took 7 of 8 points against teams that have 24, 22, 17 and 16 points.

7-4-3 on the season.  Not perfect but Leafs are back to >.600

Disappointing ending tonight but if you would?ve suggested before the bruins game that the Leafs would take five of six points in the next 3 games (against 3 of the best clubs in the league to date) And? with our third-string goalie playing 7 of 9 periods? I think most here would have called you crazy.

Matthews was forechecking the regroup; Rielly had his man at the blue line. Marner lost track of who he was supposed to actually cover when he tried to cover every Golden Knight. Reilly Smith made him pay by turning on the jets as Marner was leaning attack (for some reason). I suspect he was expecting a slow reload the way he would?ve played it himself.

My favourite part of this sequence, other than the primary assist and finish, is the sequence beginning when Matthews fires it hard into Kerfoot's ass.

Keefe has to get away from starting those 3 in OT better yet breaking them up in OT. I've said it before numerous times they more often or not always give up a winning OT goal on poor coverage or getting trap. Had this argument with some before on how you defend in OT. You think each would have a man and stick on him. Regardless I would like to see the numbers of our record in OT in the last couple years and the numbers on who's on the ice winning it or losing it. The game was lost on the shorthanded goal due to the #1 unit staying on the ice in my opinion too long and again a lack of defensive responsibility. Yes you obviously go for the win with another goal but you still have to make sure play smart and don't get caught.

I want to begin with this stat, which I thought was remarkable: Over the last three seasons, with the trio of Morgan Rielly, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner on the ice in three-on-three overtime, the Leafs have been outscored by a whopping 8-1 margin.

[...]

When Matthews and William Nylander have been on the ice together, the Leafs have four OT game-winners and zero against over the past three seasons.
