Grabo and Kuli

It looks like the effect that Kulemin is having on Tavares' scoring is pretty significant. The two have played roughly 50% of the season together and the Islanders are only scoring 38.9% of the even strength goals. Away from Kulemin, when Tavares is on the ice that jumps to 53.6%. Tavares and Okposo have been a constant but beyond that he hasn't played much with any other forwards. Some time with Conacher and fairly insignificant amounts with Baily, Nelson and Grabo. In each of those cases the Tavares line is doing better without Kulemin than with him. The Okposo-Tavares-Kulemin line seems marginally better at preventing goals but their goals for per 20 is basically halved.

Tavares is also coming off a major injury.  Stamkos' scoring is also slightly down, I'd imagine for both of them there is some adjustment.

But I think it also speaks to points, while obviously really important, not being the be-all, end-all (not that anyone is necessarily claiming they are).  But teams can afford down ticks in offensive production by certain players if the team is stronger.  I can't comment on Kulemin in NYI much but maybe he is providing something on that line that is helping the team even if not showing up on the scoresheet - I don't know.

Aka The Winnik Effect
