Have to believe there's something like that going on. Or they've agreed to really overpay Bozak.
That being said, I expect Grabovski to have a nice bounce back year next season, wherever he lands, and make Nonis and Co. look stupid for making this move.

I had warmed up to Grabbo.

Logic would certainly dictate that there is.

To a point I agree with you. He does get a very long leash in comparison to many other players. Some of his mistakes in the post season were enormous but go unmentioned, while other players made less and get chastised on a regular basis.
That said, there needs to be something big about to go down to make the team better with Grabbo leaving. Something quite big.

Sadly, it's probably the most likely reason.
@jonasTSN1050
Grabovski had 52 goals and 109 points in two seasons prior to 2013. Bozak had 33 and 79. Hard to argue Grabovski isn't the better player.

It better not be because of Bozak.
Last year, by far Grabovski's worst statistically (courtesy Siegel):
Bozak: 18 even-strength points in 722 mins. Grabovski: 13 in 664. Bozak: 12 goals. Grabovski: 9. Bozak: 52.6% FO. Grabovski: 50.6%.
One played with Kessel/JVR, the other played with McClement, Kulemin, MacArthur, Frattin.
Doesn't even get into zone starts, etc.
I know who I would rather have and it's not really close.
And if it's for someone other than Bozak, well then I'll reserve judgment until that happens.
bustaheims said:Well, this is certainly curious. I have to imagine there's something brewing that required the Leafs clearing out a butt load of cap space for nothing.

Couldn't they have signed Bozak without the second buyout? With the amount of dollars Nonis cleared out on short notice, it just feels like there are 1+ transactions in the ready, aside from the usual rfa suspects.

Yup, I kind of thought this was going to happen. He just doesn't fit, as Kadri most likely owns the #2 slot and I don't think Carlyle knows what to do with Grabbo. They tried him on the 3rd line as a checker and we know what happened.
It's almost a guarantee that Nonis is either going to trade for a big name or sign Weiss.
