Habs @ Leafs - Jan. 7th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Rookie team not playing as well constructed cup contending vets, goalie has a bad game. Burn the team to the ground!

I'm not sure why it matters which team outplayed the other, especially when one team is rebuilding and coming off of a last-overall finish and the other has been a contending playoff team for the last long while.

I mean, what solace would it be even if Habs fans "admitted" they were outplayed? I'm not even sure what that means, quite frankly. Toronto played a sloppy defense, Andersen wasn't his sharpest and, despite the dubious quality of the officiating (which seems to be status quo for NHL standards), Toronto still had 7 PP's. I'd put this one strictly in the "oh well" column.

Seriously, what would someone be looking to do in this scenario? Gloat over a moral victory?

This game went exactly as I thought it would when looking at the schedule. And it bothers me just like I thought it would. The only thing that would justify this loss is a playoff series win against the Habs this year.

I don't think you and Andy get what I'm saying. I have a few Hab fans. I have watched all 3 games this year and I think we've been the better team. My point is and I'll be truthful here. When the Leafs were winning games a few years back (the Bruin collapse) I was the first to admit on here and with those friends we weren't a great team. This Leaf team is no different as far as glaring defensive weaknesses. When the Leafs get outplayed and maybe don't deserve to win I will point that out. That's not the case with Hab fans. All they do is look at the score and that's it. The better team won. Ya you did but you weren't the better team tonight or the 2 previous meetings. That's all I'm saying.

That's the same sort of stuff we used to hear from Sens fans when we'd knock them out of the playoffs. "We played better, Cujo/Belfour just happened to bail you out".

Goalies are part of the team.

Nik is 100% correct. The Leafs weren't the better team. They lost all 3 games. That's all that matters

Yeah, you can't discount the Habs speed up front.  It really gave the Leafs defence a hard time.  They usually had a man open in the offensive zone because they were constantly in motion.

I thought that overall both teams played pretty well.  I think a couple of the goals were suspect on Andersen's side.

Looking at the Leafs record over the last while I'm ok with it.

I think that's a pretty reasonable assessment, instead of getting too high or low after a single game. Although I'm not all that wild about the jump in the standings for the greater good, the rookies showed a lot over the last several weeks, and the team was fun to watch.
