Hoffman traded to San Jose, then flipped to Florida

Hoffman is a very good player.  If he can shed his baggage, this is a steal for both San Jose and Florida.  Ottawa is a dumpster fire.

Cringe worthy.
It's a fun cringe though, for some of us anyway.

See this is the part of sports I don't get.  It wasn't much fun to be a Leaf fan for years, and it certainly wasn't much fun with other rivals considered the team that you cheered for to be a laughing stock.  I don't want to go back to that, but I am sure that it will happen some day.  Nothing lasts for ever, so I am sure the Leafs will go through a period where they are woefully mismanaged again.

To be fair, Ottawa may have wanted a roster player like Boedker in return, low on salary but serviceable in the top 6.  That would be why Tallon wouldn't have offered the same kind of deal.  So more like a 3 way deal was in place, but Ottawa may have not liked the optics of trading Hoffman within the conference...given that it happened on practically the same day, I'd bet on something like this to have happened.

Their roster is pretty terrible, and they still have to ice a team.

Like Nik said, it's not like Melnyk is advocating a rebuild there, at this point anyways.

I think they are trying to sign Karlsson and they have to convince him that they are going to win sooner rather than later.  He probably doesn't want to stick around for a full scale rebuild.  They lose Karlsson and the tickets sales are really going to go south.  So the Sens focus is on retaining him and going from there.

I really need to figure out who my girlfriend needs to harass in order for me to move to Northern California.

Better yet date a real psycho and move to South Beach!  :P

I actually think that this was a 3 way deal from the get-go...but it would have been super funny if there was a tweet or something from Hoffman when it broke.

"So excited to be a San Jose Shark, love playing there, great atmosphere, couldn't be happier!!!  Data plans way cheaper than Ottawa, LOL!!!"

It would have been even funnier though if he was eventually going to Minnesota/Columbus (they're the same team, right?) or Edmonton, or Winnipeg:

"See you later Winterlude, hello sunshine, going back to Cali Cali Cali...LOL!!!"
