That was supremely stupid.

Never should have gotten to OT.
Well cheap penalties, crappy PK and that's the results. I think they deserved better but whatever. On to the next game.

Can't give them 2 when the net's empty.  Special teams are letting them down both ways right now.

Yup. Not liking 88 out there with the net empty because he's not a shot blocker.
Not liking his giveaways, coughing up the puck on the PP..lately hes doing it every game now....and get 44 off PP1.

Yeah ok, whatever you say...you just keep defending him but everything I said is true...he's not a shot blocker and he's been forcing plays and turning the puck over a lot on the PP and in general which is not like him.

The Leafs played quite well this game. Tavares was the best leaf on the ice for most of the night. Obviously you don't want to give up two in the last 2 minutes, but overall the team was the better group.

I wasn't a big fan of Domi going into the shootout. Also not a big fan of him on the ice in OT on the powerplay. Actually, not a big fan of him on the ice at all.

As for the shootout, Toronto's approach was mediocre at best. They made it extremely easy on the Canes goaltender. They were trying to get him to open up as they approached, but with no lateral movement whatsoever, it makes it very easy for him to stay square and in position. Once he didn't move, or give up the five-hole, the Leafs had no choice but to bring it to the backhand and hope it squeaked through. Easy save for a goalie when you're on the top of the crease with no room to get it up. The Canes goalie showed in the game that he was struggling handling/controlling shots, why a deke mentality was brought to the shootout is beyond me.

Ok, my point wasn't that you're wrong (you're not), but that your nitpicking is misplaced. It's like saying you really don't like this sharp kitchen knife because it sucks at prying up nails and breaking cinderblocks.

I disagree. Nitpicking would be if it happened once in a blue moon. That's not the case lately. It's been going on multiple times a game now, especially on the PP.
That doesn't mean, like you suggested, that I don't like him. I think he's been awesome this year but I expect better from him. I also have little doubt he'll turn it around.

That was absolutely terrible. I'm not sure how upset to be because I've seen the Leafs do that sort of come from behind against other teams, but still, pretty pitiful.

It felt like they were going to lose that game at 4-2 and they did.

Just an FYI Tavares is only 33. He is the highest-paid forward at age 32+ and is 15th in scoring for ages 32+ forwards. I would like to see more from him.

Tavares has just been unlucky and has lacked finish this season. He also played with an unlucky Bert for a lot of it.
Tavares leads the team in....On Ice xGF%, FO%, xG/60, HDxG, Shot Attempts%. He's 2nd in xGoals, 5th in Pts/60, 4th in hits for forwards, 3rd Shots/60, 14th in SH% and last in goals above expected -13. Bert is 2nd worse at -8.
JT is 4th in the league in x Goals, 2nd worst in goals above expected. He leads the league in FO% for players that have taken over 1000 draws. JT is still generating just as well as he always has. If his shooting percentage was what it was last year he'd have 29 goals. If he wasn't generating for himself and linemates, we'd have an issue but that's not the case.
As for his 11M, don't care. If you get a chance to sign a 28 year old superstar of his caliber as a UFA, you do it because they rarely come on the market.

Good to know that he's more snake-bitten than underperforming. I just don't like the age dialogue because lots of his peers (same age or older) are out-scoring him.

That's the thing. You look at his pts totals and you go wait a minute. When you look at his underlying numbers, he's actually doing just fine. And Keefe keeping him with Robertson and McMann is a good thing. We'll need him in the playoffs.
