Loved the effort. Woll is my starter if he keeps playing like that. Canes win on a shitty bounce goal off McCabe.

He had a great game, but I'd need to see more of this from him over the rest of the schedule to put him in ahead of Samsonov right now. As things stand right now, Sammy has been the more consistent over the last little bit. Woll needs to show he's completely shaken off the rust from his time away from the ice.

Yeah right now if I had to pick Sammy's still the game 1 starter. Even from a mental perspective I think it'd benefit Sammy a lot to get the 1st start. But regardless of who goes the leash will likely be relatively short after that.

Keefe said he wanted to split games basically 50/50 between the two for the remainder of the season, so the starter could really just come down to that batch of games. Obviously Samsonov's injury could complicate that. I wouldn't even mind throwing Jones a start at some point late in the season just to give him some action since games by then really should be pretty meaningless.

Well T Bay is only 4 pts behind the Leafs now and have been on a pretty good heater. Leafs have a game in hand. Could get interesting down the stretch and the Leafs may not have any meaningless games left if they want to hold their position.

Further to that -- not saying this is right or wrong -- Keefe tends to start with the veteran option first, and the less seasoned player (potentially better one) gets to come in if change is needed, so it's less pressure on the younger player. See Bunting/Knies last season. If Samsonov is good to go health-wise, I've seen enough from him to have him slotted first.

Any time you see a younger player slot in immediately, it's a strong sign of the coaching staff's endorsement.

Samsonov is a very likeable person.
But I thought Woll was the better goalie going into last year's playoffs.
Handily and obviously, Woll was better this season until he got hurt in December.

Samsonov has obviously clearly improved over his start to the season (couldn't get much worse).
Is his goaltending likely to win them a Cup?
Anything is possible these days with NHL goalies but he doesn't seem very likely to me or he doesn't seem like a strong asset.
In a lot of series, I doubt he would be regarded as the better goalie.

Good start by Woll against Carolina but I need to see more.
