Idiocracy

When Chris Cuomo had covid, right wingers were all over the internet claiming he was faking it. So what goes around comes around.

Trump needs to get very sick from this. I'm not going to wish for his death, but he needs to get sick enough that maybe some of his supporters will take a step back and say "hmm, maybe I should be treating this more seriously."

What does it say about the state of things these days when my initial thoughts are he doesn?t actually have Covid and he?s just using then opportunity to show that it?s not serious and add that her see you done need masks?

Actually, on a similar note there?s a frustrating article in the national post today:

https://nationalpost.com/opinion/randall-denley-ontarios-new-covid-models-show-everyone-should-stop-panicking-especially-doug-ford

I don't have any problem with that article at all.

Just after the news broke I was watching Don Lemon interview Sanjay Gupta on CNN.  Now CNN are no fans of the Donald, in fact they are trying to roast him at every turn.  Sanjay said, "He is 74, Obese yes, has some underlying condition but he should be Ok".  He made it sound like a walk in the park.
I sort of found that analysis kind of surreal, and makes one wonder, WTF.

Read the comments. It?s articles like this that give people the impression that masks aren?t needed and that we?re being oppressed. That?s my issue.

Well, I guess I'd say that we can't just stop using factual analysis or skepticism because of crazy people that will misinterpret the information.

There are idiots on all sides of the issue.

And that's a huge issue for all of us.

Yeah, I'm not sure "we shouldn't worry, there's reasons to believe that our health care system becoming completely overwhelmed isn't a strong possibility " is as reassuring as the bloodless ghoul who wrote that thinks it is. Some people are actually still concerned with the actual human consequences of "only" several hundred people being in the ICU.

"The biggest fear in the next few months ought to be an overreaction that further restricts personal freedoms and economic activity without the facts to justify it."

That statement is concerning though. Our biggest fear shouldn't be an overreaction, it should be the lasting health effects of people being hit by this disease and the increase deaths. Flu season hasn't started yet. I don't think being prepared and noting that the number of cases is rising is fear-mongering.

Apparently he's now in hospital and getting experimental antibody treatments, so that should hopefully preemptively shut down anything along those lines.

Yeah seems like it's not BS.

I'm not the kind of person to wish for this sort of thing on anyone, mainly because I'm such a neurotic that I tend to think it will invariably backfire on me but something I also don't like to see is a bunch of people policing people who do have nasty things to say here.

People have lost loved ones to this virus, have lost jobs, businesses...so if they want to vent a little bit I don't think we need smarmy pricks being "Real classy, people" either. Trump has done as much as anyone to spread misinformation about this and that has lead to the spread of the disease itself so the people who have had real loss here can be forgiven a little bad temper.

Right. I mean, my own personal view on how I handle myself in this is that I comply with all the rules the best that I can. I am doing my part in the social contract. When the president of the US isn't just destroying that social contract but also could have a decent case for willful negligence in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of his own citizens... Well, I go to the good old fashioned utilitarian measure of things. I don't want Trump dead but if Trump dies due to his own rhetoric and negligence, do people start taking this seriously? How many citizens end up being saved by changing poor behaviour that was stoked by that very president? I don't think that's it's classless of me to say that my heart goes out to all the people he misled who've died or will have long term damage than on the person who's lies that are that big backfired.

I'm on board with all of that. Trump's negligence, indifference and even malevolence has surely led to the additional deaths of tens of thousands of Americans. He has contributed significantly to widespread public resistence to common-sense measures that could prevent the deaths of tens of thousands more. He and his administration have blood on their hands and he is paying personally now for his own neglect and ignorance.

I am not here to wish illness or death on anybody, even such a destructive malignant narcissist. But if or when he recovers from this, the Trump presidency is going to end very, very badly and in very many ways when he is most likely defeated in November. He will without a doubt directly or indirectly encourage (or fail to discourage) widespread violence and rebellion from his extremist supporters. He will do all he can to undermine public faith in American democracy and in the Biden presidency. He and his enablers will sabotage the transition as much as he can, deliberately leave Biden as big a mess as he can, and loot as much as he can on the way out. I don't even think these are bold predictions, I think it should be pretty plain and in clear continuation of his well-established behaviours and motivations.

I honestly think that his health being severely compromised by covid might be the only way out of this otherwise inevitable fate after the election.

And the crazy thing about all that is their 15 year old daughter broke the news on Til Tok and told everyone to wear a mask and to not listen to the nonsense out there. It's just so baffling. She is acting like the responsible parent. I would be beside myself if I were that negligent a parent and I would be livid with my parents if I was Claudia Conway's age.

The party of personal responsibility, my friend.

There?s chatter now that he was diagnosed 72 hours ago and not yesterday. Hospital doctors and White House doctors are giving conflicting statements. What a shock that the disinformation engine is at work.

Not a surprise at all that Trump would knowingly expose others to the virus by attending events after testing positive. He has no regard for anyone but himself.
