Team Canada beat Slovenia 7-2 in Sunday action in Paris as Nathan McKinnon earned his tour du chapeau (that's French for hat-trick -- three goals).  Other scorers were Giroux, Barrie, Skinner and the Leafs Mitch Marner who also chipped in with an assist on McKinnon's goal with his patented cross-ice pass.

Team Canada took a barrage of shots, 51 in total on the Slovenia net at Slovenian netminder Gasper Kroselj, while Canada's Chad Johnson faced only 14.

Other 2017 MWHC  Saturday results:

Team Tampa Bay...oops...Team Russia blasted Team Italy 10-1 with an eight point performance from the Lightning duo of Vladimir Namestnikov & Nikita Kutcherov.  Poor Italy, they hardly got any shots on goal while the Russians swamped Frederic  Cloutier.

Elsewhere Team USA with it's first win of the tournament after their opening loss to Germany, overwhelmed Team Denmark 7-2.

Team Latvia over Team Slovakia 3-1; Team Switzerland over Team Norway 3-0.

Team France outlasted Team Finland 5-1.  French goalkeeper Florian Hardy faced 43 shots while his opponent Finlandia Sebastian Aho faced 23.  Thanks to Hardy's superb netminding, which gave France more than a chance to stay in the game.  The result delighted the mostly French crowd here in Paris.  It was France' first win ever at a World tourney. Tres bien!

I cut up so many onions for lunch.

At the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, Nate McKinnon & Jeff Skinner each had three points, while Mitch Marner added two assists, in powering Team Canada roster a 6-0 wallop of Team Belarus.

Canada, a perfect 3W-0L with a 17/3 GF/GA record, and Team Russia ( 2W-1OTW,18/5 GF/GA) are the top teams at this tournament so far. In fact, Canada & Russia dominate the scoring leaders chart, with Canada's McKinnon, Skinner, & Barrie just behind the leader Artemi Panarin of Russia.

Team Canada's next game is Thursday when they play host nation Team France.

Other Monday results at the 2017 MWHC:

In Cologne, Germany at the Lanxess Arena,  Team Russia's offensive machine showed no mercy as Russia pummelled Team Germany 6-3.
A four point game led by Russia's Artemi Panarin, there was little the Germans could do to stop the Russian scoring attack though Germany goaltender Thomas Greiss was valiant in net.

Team Germany lost two of it's best forwards -- Tobias Rieder through injury and Patrick Hager through a major penalty & game misconduct for slew-footing Russia's Sergei Mozyakin.  Awful blow for the Germans.

More results to come...

Monday results at the same 2017 MWHC:

Thursday's results:

Mon Dieu!  Team Canada eked out a 3-2 victory over Team France and thanks to the Maple Leafs Mitch Marner,  who's shot want wide with the rebound landing in the crease just as Marner went to the net checking French defenseman Jonathan Janil, who tried to swipe the puck away from the goal only to lose it and go into his own team's net.  Marner's persistence led to the goal.

That goal wasn't scored until late inton the third period.  Consider Canada lucky as the tenacious French put on a show in front of screaming fans at the Accorhotels Arena here in Paris.

The crowd was great," Canadian defenceman Jason Demers enthused. "They gave us a helluva game. It was great to see them push that hard. It?ll help us in the long run. A little adversity helped us, being down, and I thought we did a great job of coming together and holding strong."

"They?re tenacious," Johnson said of the French. "They?ve got an NHL style. They?re hard on the puck. They defend really well, too. They don?t seem to get flustered or lose their composure, even with the score or how we control the play. They really stick together and generate a little bit of scoring chances too. They keep it simple."

Once again, French 'keeper Florian Hardy was the hero  in facing 35 shots and was inspirational for the home side.

Canada now has an incredible 41-3 record at the senior level since the 2014 Olympics (6-0 in Sochi; 6-2 at 2014 Worlds; 10-0 at 2015 Worlds; 9-1 at 2016 Worlds; 6-0 at 2016 World Cup; and, 4-0 so far in Paris).

Sacre bleu!

Egads!  Team Switzerland beat Team Canada 3-2 Saturday in overtime.  The pesky and persistent Swiss never gave up, not even behind a 2-0 deficit.  They finally solved Canadian 'keeper Calvin Pickard and eventually forced the OT.

Though the Canadians dominated the OT, the Swiss made the most of their chances with what little of them they had.  Fabrice Herzog scored the overtime winner for Team Switzerland

"They never quit," said Canada's Travis Konecny. "We kind of got away from our game a bit. We should have gotten more pucks to the net. We had a little bit more to give and we gave them opportunities and they took advantage."

Team Canada is without defenceman Tyson Barrie (out for tournament due to injury).  In his place was Chris Lee (Canadian KHLer).

The Maple Leafs Mitch Marner was among the scorers for Team Canada, who outshot the Swiss 45-26.
