Islanders @ Leafs - Jan. 7th, 7:00pm - TSN, SN 590

this team's effort makes me wanna:

Truly this team is unwatchable most of the time. At the end of this game McClement will be up near 20 mins while Holland will be around 5. Pretty much says all that needs to be said about Randy.

That's it for me.

Oh, they're out there.

No, they're really not. Not a single person here is happy that Bernier played poorly tonight. Not a single person was particularly vocal about Bernier starting when he was playing well. What you're seeing is people calling for equal treatment of the two goalies. When Reimer plays poorly and gets pulled, Bernier starts the next game. When Bernier played poorly and got pulled . . . Bernier started the next game, and, well, played even more poorly.

As for Bernier's "superior technical ability" . . . well, it certainly hasn't translated to much more success - if any. Reimer has a better winning % and a very similar Sv%.

I really believe there are many who are thrilled with that goal. Some have been against Bernier taking Reimer's job from the start because, hey, Reimer's such an "aw shucks" nice guy, nevermind Reimer's role in last year's collapse and Bernier's superior technical abilities (Bad timing for that one aside...).

Bernier goes on a stretch of three or four great games, and all you hear is complaining that Reimer didn't get a fair shake.

At this point I hope they just give the job to Reimer now and trade Bernier so we can talk about something else.

Like how Carlyle is dumb, perhaps.

I have nothing against either of them, but Bernier has sucked tonight and should have been pulled after the second goal.  Simple as that.

Goalies don't get pulled after allowing 2 goals unless they're the first two shots of the game or something.

Tipped by Phaneuf on the way in there

Oh yeah. Phaneuf may have touched it while the puck was still one kilometre away from our goal. That explains everything.

Actually it explains a lot. A puck tipped like that has a tendency to knuckle and move on a completely different trajectory than a normal shot.

At that distance, our goalie has to recover and make the save. Simple as that. I don't really blame Bernier for the Leafs sucking so bad. This team is just bloody frustrating. And Bernier has been pretty crap tonight too.

People I blame for this inevitable loss:  Kadri, Reimer, Gardiner, Rielly, Holland

Obviously. Especially Reimer and Holland. They're just not doing enough on the bench to help the guys on the ice.

Well it's crunch time in the 3rd period, I have no doubt the best players on the team will show up now and drag the team to victory lane.

I could almost understand playing McClement over Holland if the Leafs are leading/the game is tied and there is a big opponent to keep in check (Tavares would count).  But maybe you should swap them when the team is down by 2 goals in the 3rd period.

Well you know he was kind of bad last game (so was the whole team but still), and the fair thing to do for two goalies who've both had good stats would be to alternate.

If they lose tonight, the loss is completely on Bernier IMO (3 bad goals). If Reimer plays badly then, by all means go back to Bernier, but Reimer did get the team to the playoffs last year and he's put up pretty good numbers this year.

Not sure why Bernier should get special treatment after 2 bad games (or why you'd be against going back to Reimer). Superior technical abilities have not been evident over the last 5 periods games.

Well, unless you want to send a message that you're trying to win the game.

You forgot Grabovski.

Are you referring to the same Mikhail Grabovski who has 30 points in 40 games this year and, according to James Mirtle, some of the highest puck possession numbers and Corsi scores in NHL history?

Last 10 minutes of the 3rd while protecting a lead? Sure, though, McClement's even strength play hasn't been great. The rest of the game? Completely ridiculous. Carlyle needs to get away from the whole line matching thing. It's hurting the team, not helping them.

I think it's academic Reimer gets the next start. And if he wants the job, he will hopefully play better than he has the majority of his last five (or so) starts. I believe he had one strong game in there against Phoenix...
