Jets @ Leafs - Apr. 5th, 7:00pm - CBC, SN 590

Just because the leafs are playing like shit doesn't mean we can attempt to assault them or harass them in public for instance.

Throwing beers on ice isn't assault. Booing isn't assault or harassment. When one doesn't get what they paid for, they voice their dissatisfaction. When I buy a product and it doesn't live up to my expectations I return it or get it exchanged.

Don't know why you are so adamant fans don't show their displeasure. Don't you understand our frustrations? 10 years and one playoff appearance (that too in a shortened season). Think about that. This in a city that is the centre of the hockey world.

I remember a time when Bruins fans would throw beer bottles at opposing players during the era of brutal hockey.  Boston fans have always been known to be a tough breed.

I would not want our fans to ever become like that, certainly not at the opposition nor against our players.  Throwing waffles is one thing, but throwing beer bottle or cans or any hard sharp object is both dangerous and a no-no.

I can understand the frustration, heck, I've followed the Leafs from my earliest youngest days.  While I haven't been a paying customer, I've experienced, at times, the same frustration as a paying customer would.  Of course, I didn't throw anything at the t.v.

I've been at some pretty embarrassing losses in various sports but have never booed my team. I fully understand the reaction when you feel like your team let you down on the day but really, was that result unexpected?

Throwing a glass of beer that hits someone in the feet is assault. No mind fans do not have the right to throw anything at the players no matter how bad the team is IMO.

Was that directed at me? He just comes as a classless guy to me, and not the guy I'd be motivated to rally around. Great captains have the ability to inspire their team (see: Sundin, Mats).  I don't see Dion as a guy doing much inspiring. I see a guy who thinks it's funny to call Phil Kessel fat.

I think that's looking way, way too far into that.  It's two friends on the team having fun chirping each other.  Kessel's literally eating a cookie.  Criticize his on ice play, fine, but stuff like this it strikes me as ridiculous to ridicule.

Yeah. That two teammates joking around with each other at the All Star Game a couple years ago. That's it. In fact, to me, that clip plus some of the stuff from 24/7 shows pretty clearly that the two of them get along pretty well.

No, but, he did sign him to a 5 year extension, so, he's somewhat committed to giving him some rope.

I know it's just money if MLSE decides to let him go, but my god was that an idiotic decision.

It was premature. One good shortened season as GM didn't warrant that kind of extension, at all.

Fair enough. i don't doubt that they're pals.  But still, nothing about Phaneuf's demeanor on or off the ice tells me he's a guy players want to go to war behind. Obviously it's an intangible, subjective thing, but there are certain guys capable of demanding respect and effort from a team and getting it. Phaneuf just doesn't seem to me one of those guys. When the team's in a tailspin and "can't breathe" (as rocket Randy puts it), Phaneuf is powerless to right the ship.

Guys I hope to never see again in a Leafs home uni:

1.  Phaneuf
2.  Clarkson
3.  Franson
4.  Orr

Guys I expect never to see again in a Leafs home uni:
1.  Bolland
2.  Reimer
3.  Raymond
4.  Lupul

Them top four should be gone for sure. I would hope Deon and Orr for sure. Clarkson never worked this season so why would he next.
The second four should stay. but I'll bet we loose two of them.

and the biggest thing is they had better sign  Komorov, boy did we miss him.

For what it's worth I live out west not far from the Shuswap and have relatives who play hockey in that area. I was told by my cousin last year that what he heard and this came from close friends of a current Leaf that Dion is not well liked by a lot of people. He is not a great captain and teammate in the dressing room. Reason why Calgary let him go. Take it for what it's worth but this is what he was told.

The Jets had 26 faceoffs in the offensive zone at even strength in that game. The Leafs had five.

That's the story of the season. Being hemmed in the our zone all game long.

That's a stat that doesn't really get talked about much. I can't seem to find any data on team faceoffs, but I'd have to imagine we're either at or near the bottom of the league in that category.

That stat, if it's available on a team wide basis, would be zone starts. It won't give you a number, but, it will give you a pretty good sense of where teams are at.

That's all on the coach I think. His defensive strategy for this team is not working this personnel. It might have worked with Pronger and Niedermier but it not working with Gunnarson and Phaneuf.

The real "take it for what its worth" rumor about Phaneuf in Calgary involves Dion, Craig Conroy, Conroy's wife, and Jerome Iginla's fists.
