Putting aside my thoughts on our now-0.899 Sv% goalie and looking at the other end... the Leafs really needed to test Brossoit more tonight. His numbers coming into the game were good but he looked shaky all night and gave up 2 weak looking goals (heck, 3 if you want to count Engvall's). If they produced the kinds of chances they were getting in the previous 2 games they would have scored 6 goals probably.

Yep totally agree. Jets tried to tighten up defensively but the Leafs needed to take advantage of Hellebuyck being out. They didn?t it was a poor effort.
Effort was actually  good...the execution was brutal...oh well on to the next.
Can't wait for Sandin to be ready to go. Dermott has struggled and needs a seat. When is Simmonds eligible to come back?

I?d like to see Llilegren get a chance too

I think after the week break they need to run with Campbell. See how he handles a heavy workload. From watching him when he?s played his positioning and rebound control have been better than Andersen in my opinion.

I agree. He's looked pretty good with the Marlies so far.

We have to see what he can do at some point. I hope he can go on a run. We'll need it.

you can blame the players for a lazy effort and Andersen not bailing anyone out.

If we did that, what would be left for you to do?

Hey I?ve been Freddy?s biggest supporter over the last few years. Said it numerous times he was our MVP when this team was horrible defensively. He?s done. Game has gone down the tube and same old story as a lot have questioned. Can he win in the playoffs? Get rid of him as they aren?t going to resign him.

No, I don't think Andsersen has been great for a while either and wouldn't mind seeing what Campbell can do as well.

My comment was more about the they lost because they didn't try hard enough part.

It's weird. Even in past seasons I always found Freddy played better when he was getting barraged with shots. Whenever the Leafs played a better game defenisvely he looked shaky.

It's like he has too much time to think and he over thinks it. I don't know. But your starter can not be letting in 3-4 goals every game.

Are there any goalies out there who could be traded for? Preferably upcoming UFAs. I think it would be a good idea to just make a leap.

For the Andersen lovers on here, ask yourself honestly, with how he has played in the playoffs in the past and how he looks this season would you feel confident starting him in the playoffs?

Simmonds has been eligible to come off LTIR for about a week now, so they aren't waiting for that. From the sounds of it he could be back for the Calgary back-to-back after the 4 day break. If not I'd imagine those would be the last games he'd miss since there's another 4 day break after them.

Sandin's out for another 2 weeks probably per Chris Johnson.

Thanks. Maybe the Wayne train plays tomorrow lol. I heard Sandin had the cast taken off.

As I had said I?ve always supported Andersen as you?re absolutely right. He played great when the team in front of him was worse. When we gave up the 40 shots a night he bailed us out. If he isn?t the answer package him elsewhere for someone more consistent and reliable. He?s just too iffy. Again they probably aren?t going to resign him so why not try to swing a deal.

I'm not a fan of him anyway, but I really thought that Keefe did a number on his own team tonight.

1) Marner and Matthews just didn't have it going, but Tavares and Nylander did. Why did Nylander get so little TOI? It's absolutely ridiculous.

2) The 2 man at the end was just peak selfishness. The leafs are able to score 2 goals in a few minutes. Keefe decided his pride was more important than that chance.

Nothing to do with pride. It was a garbage call and he was pissed off. I didn't know coaches weren't allowed to yell at the refs anymore. I would love to know what was said because to put a team down by 2 seems extreme.

Keefe has been great.

Disagree with 1..Hyman and Marner killed Matthews tonight. He was literally by himself.
Also with 2..Game was over with the Hyman penalty so Keefe stood up for his team. They'll appreciate it.

I think Andersen is still hurting and came back early because Campbell went down with an injury. Team needs Campbell healthy so we can see if we actually have a tandem or Campbell can be the guy.

Yeah. I'd forgotten Andersen was injured.

This is a slump but the team is still in first place even though fighting injuries to key players all year.  We have seen enough of all the Canadian teams to know that they are the best in the division.  WPG is probably a fairly close second at the moment, but not if everyone were healthy on our side.

The upcoming light schedule is just what they need.

This certainly is another game where ?a save? would have been helpful but again not really a game where it was a bad goal that let the team down.  The behind the net goal though I think is becoming a bit of a trend with Andersen.  He comes across the net but isn?t blocking very much of the net when he?s doing it.  The Leafs had a similar shot a minute later that Broissant didn?t leave a hole in his body for the puck to get through.

I don?t know if Anderson?s positioning approach right now is part of why he is struggling to fight around screens because it feels like an awful lot of tips and screen shots are going past him.  The Leafs aren?t getting the same thing on the other side of the ice.

Maybe it?s injury, but I think it is a bit of a recurrent problem with Andersen now over the last year.  Hopefully this is truly an Andersen problem because then a healthy run of Campbell could be a solution.  If not we might be in trouble

I have absolutely no issue with Keefe letting the refs know how he felt. It's nice to see some emotion out of the guy. It's a game in the middle of the season that means little in the grand scheme of things. He knew the game was over and felt the mood of his players on the bench. Instead of them doing something stupid, he did. The Rielly call was horsesh*t and then after gift wrapping the game, the refs decided to call the interference call on Hyman. Good on Keefe for giving it to the referee.

I have many questions about last night's game but why is it that if a player gloves down a puck the opposing team can choose to purposely not play the puck? Why don't they just call the play dead after knocking the puck down with your glove? I don't know... If you bat the puck out of midair with your glove I'm kind of ok with that.

I believe it goes hand in hand with the rest of the reffing last night. You are right it should have been blown dead when he made the hand pass.
