Jets @ Leafs - Mar. 31st, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Just think in five years when Matthews scores his 500th goal while playing for the Arizona coyotes all 15 fans in attendance will politely clap and walk out before the end of the game

(Just kidding Matthews is a Leaf for life)

7-3 beatdown ... this time with the script flipped.
We got to see inside the Jets dressing room after that last game. They were celebrating like they?d won the cup. Would love to see it tonight.

Heh, for sure.  Especially since we are sinking their playoff hopes.

That was a Swede pass

Not Nylandericious?

It was a very unselfish play. He had a shot at the PP hatty and sold that no looker.

It was a beautiful play.  It's why I feel you have to keep him along with the other three.  So much talent for all 4 of them.

Like I always say...Nylander is my favorite player almost...got in the dirty areas, etc.  Glad he's on the Leafs.

Oh...not sure if anyone here or at the rink noticed but Matthews scored tonight for his 50th

:)

Another casual 3 point night for Marner gives him 58 points in his last 32 games. The next highest scorer in that span of time is Johnny Gaudreau with 52 points in 1 extra game.

No one brought it up in Nylander's media availability, as Matthews' historic moment rightly took centre stage, but he has eclipsed his career high in points (61), established in his first full season, and his producing at a higher pace than his breakout COVID-shortened season (the 31 G one). He needs 5 more to catch his career high in goals.

Tavares looks revitalized alongside straightline North/South wingers. Looks like he and Nylander both feel more confident when they're the #1 offensive option on their lines and get to play their styles.

And maybe having a balanced lineup like that is the way to go. The third line can be good enough to function as 2A especially when Kase is back.

I don't know if this was mentioned or not, but Toninato going in there charging at a rookie (Liljegren) with a couple of minutes to go in a 6-3 game knowing Clifford is on the ice was super stupid.

Dillon had to protect his guy and take on Clifford away from Toninato and took a couple of tough punches.

If I were Dillon, I'd be grabbing Toninato by the scruff and telling him to never ever put him in a position like that
in a lost game ever again.

I think you're right.

What was your reaction to Ferraro's (friendly) comment that he should be a 40-goal scorer?

I watch the games on mute, so I literally had no reaction to that comment lol.

I think Ferraro is right in terms of Nylander's toolkit (hell if Jeff O'Neill could do it...). 31 goals in 68 games with only 9 of them being PP (only part of the season on PP1) suggests it's within reach in certain circumstances, i.e. if he got Marner's 1st line/PP minutes these past few seasons.

It's also worth mentioning that Nylander has spent basically his entire NHL career playing with a primarily goal-scoring centre. Not to say that any of the big-4 are really pigeonholed into a certain role but it makes sense for Nylander to be slightly more of a playermaker when he's with Matthews and Tavares (especially Matthews). This season is actually the first time in Nylander's career that he'll likely finish averaging over 3 shots per game.

Well this season he's getting the PP1 time and 1st line minutes too and he's producing better then he ever has. He actually leads the team in PP time albeit he hasn't missed a game so far. He's also now getting Marner EV time. MM has played 15:48 EV time/game this season. Willy has played 15:03 EV time/game. As for PP time, Marner 2:58/game, Will 2:51/game. Nice to see that Keefe upped his icetime so far this season. I can see him going on a heater and potting 9 before the season is over. He def has the toolkit. One of the most talented players in the league.
