Joe Colborne

starting to get buzz in the press that he warrents a call up. His contract expires at the end of the season so they may want to see what he can do in the bigs....has the size to be a number one and he knows how to dish.

He's got 23pts in 24 games stretching back to January. He's not a bad player but he really needs to show consistency over a full year before he can be effective. You can't be great for half a year and invisible for the other half.

His whole injury situation kind of explains the consistency problems though. I still can't believe what a stupid decision it was for him to play. Both on him for making the decision and the Leafs for letting him.

True, but what is done is done.  Keeping Kadri down super-long seemed to work out well -- he was an AHL ppg player for a year or two.

I'd bring him up in a circumstance where we needed him (eg, we decide to trade Bozak).  Outside of that, keep him down there increasing his confidence and skills and doling out huge ice time.

I agree. I think Colborne needs to be given a whole lot of slack on that injury, just because of what it was and how it was handled IMO.

Before the injury he was pretty good and now after, he's doing about what you'd like to see from him. There was just a big gap in production during the recovery, tendons take a long time to fully heal, especially when he wasn't pulled out to let it heal. He was taking face offs and taking shots, which I don't think I would have made that decision with him, if I was in charge of it.

With all the call ups post lockout,  he is finally getting the ice time that he got at the first of last season pre-injury when he was lighting it up playing with Joey Crabb. Say what you want about Crabb but you just can't underestimate NHL quality linemates when gauging certain players success.  A guy like Colborne needs a finisher. Colborne from what I have seen makes a nice set up pass and better than Bozak in that aspect of his game IMHO.

Scored the winner in OT today, 30 points in last 36 games for Colborne.  Up to 42 pts in 64 games for the season.  Marlies have points in 10 of last 11 games.

good to see he is finally playing well.  But he is 23 years old.  He should be a good player in the minors by now if he ever wants to be a good player in the NHL.

Can't say this isn't rue for the most part, but I just wonder if him being a big body (combined with injuries and playing 3rd/4th line) doesn't mean he'll take a bit longer.

Someone like Clowe started to put up consistent numbers around this age (1 year earlier but Colborne had the injury). I wouldn't write him off just yet. In fact I'd give him a shot next year, sink or swim style.

Joe colborne's improvement has not gone unnoticed by dave nonis. He'll get a chance to make the leafs next fall. #tmltalk #marlies

I wonder why he isn't on the wing.  His faceoff isn't the greatest and you'd think he'd handle the boards better then most.
