Well, there's a few things wrong there. For starters, this sets absolutely no precedent that Blake Wheeler didn't already establish. Along those lines, this is in no way a circumvention of the draft system but a part of the draft system that exists in every single sport.
Also, I doubt that "The Owners" Are going to feel any specific way about this. I'd imagine the owners of Edmonton and Boston, among others, are going to have slightly different perspectives on the matter than those in Anaheim or Phoenix.
The owners are going to want to take a cut of the player's take either way. They can't do anything about players having the right to not sign with the team that drafts them outside of offering compensation to the team that loses a player. I really don't see how this impacts the CBA negotiations at all.
