Kadri suspended 3 games

Please don't start screaming that the NHL is biased against the Leafs. That's hab fan territory.

Kadri got exactly what he deserved. I would of been fine with 5 games as well. It was an extremely selfish play.

Agreed with this.

There's no consistency, and this is not the time to start ramping up the suspensions to set another "new" standard.  I thought since he already got the game misconduct, they'd add another game to send the message.

I get it, they hate the head stuff...so where's the suspension for Wingel's elbow on Marner face?  Maybe because Marner didn't drop to the ice and exaggerate?

That was a terribly called hockey game.

It was stupid but out of character of previous playoff suspensions we've seen. I'm ok with the number but I hope the team can use this as a rallying point like mentioned above.

I think it was a game too much but honestly with shit like that and the way they played and the terrible coaching decisions maybe the team needs to be smacked around and taken down a peg. They've had some really underlying analytics numbers that weren't very good that the whole organization seemed to ignore. The Bruins are a legitimately good team based on the numbers. The Leafs are sort of pretenders, and this goes to how the team handles personnel decisions and how it's coached. Kadri stapling Wingels could've been avoided if the staff took him aside after the couple of borderline plays that he could've been called for and settled him down.

Anyway I just think this is kind of a microcosm of bigger problems for this team. In the end I think Kadri and coaching will cost us the series.

The thing is, and I know this is playoff hockey, but the refs let the game get out of hand.  The Bruins do a lot of s*** that flies under the radar.  It's borderline and the refs let them get away with it, i.e. the elbow to the head of Marner.  Kadri got frustrated and snapped, which is exactly what Boston wants.  I don't like to say this, but TBH the refs decided the outcome of game one, and perhaps of the entire series now that Kadri is gone.  The Leafs' penalty that led to the second Boston goal should not have been called.  And if they're going to call that then they should 100% have called a penalty for the elbow to Marner's head along with all the other BS Boston pulled in that game.

Honestly I don't even enjoy watching games involving Boston, they're so dirty.  It's a real shame we didn't get to play Tampa Bay.

No one is screaming. We have a season's worth of penalty statistics that suggest that the Leafs are more likely to be penalized than the other team. The penalty disparity continued into the first game of the playoffs. And now we have a suspension that appears to be disproportionate to other playoff suspensions.

I don't tend towards being conspiratorial but when the statistics suggest something is up, it's not much of a leap to suggest that some decision-makers historically do not like the team and allow that to colour their decisions.

They didn't call Madrid's blatant knee on knee. That's enough for me to think that, while yes it was a badly officiated game, it's the Leafs that are the bigger problem to themselves.

You know I've stayed away from commenting on game 1 as I was at a friends for dinner and watched a bit of the game here and there. What I will say and I know I'm going to get ragged on by many on this site but that's fine. This team is not built for the playoffs. You have to have some players with that edge and grit and to be honest the only ones in the lineup on Thursday I would say have it are Nazem and Polak. Said it for a long time the team is too soft and plays a wide open game exposing too many chances. If Andersen doesn't have a solid game we are in trouble. He's carried us the last 2 years. Why? Because Babcock and company haven't either addressed the personnel or changed the way they play. I love Matthews, Marner and Nylander but them along with 3/4 of this team don't have that nastiness or grit that u need for playoff hockey. The Bruins play a tougher style game and we have no one to come back with. Nothing. What Kadri did was fine in my books but he could have handled it a bit different. I would of started pummelling him with some fists worst he would have gotten was thrown out and probably avoided the suspension. Leafs need to find either through trade or draft someone they can throw out there that can play the game but also keep the other team in check. Strike some fear on the opposition. As much as some of you think the game has gotten away from that it's still needed. Leafs have too many skilled players who shy away from that type of game. I don't understand how Marchand is still skating. What was the score in the game when he kissed Komarov? If the score was 3 or 4 to 1 if I was Komarov I would have bopped him. How does that not get addressed. If the game was close then go after the little sh*t today with some clean hits etc. That won't happen though I guarantee you. Kadri's suspension is going to hurt but if Andersen isn't on his game not going to matter anyway. Team suprised me last year against Washington so maybe they respond tonight and moving forward. We'll see.

Where's the statistics that suggest the NHL is biased against the leafs? We cannot say that the league historically does not like the team. The team has historically been a bad team for a very long time. Hard to pin that on anyone but management.

When a player throws a flying hip check to the back of someone's head 3 games is light IMO. There is absolutely zero place for that type of hit in a hockey game.

People can point to the penalty that gave the B's the second goal but a couple of the Bruin's penalties were also suspect. If the Leafs would of taken advantage of their powerplays at the start of the 2nd, people wouldn't be so stressed about the selfish actions of Kadri. Perhaps they wouldn't of occurred. Who knows. What I do know is he was being selfish from the start of the game, including a knee on knee with Nash that he actually reached out to make contact. If I was coach, after his 3 game suspension, if the Leafs are still in it, I'd sit him down for the rest of the series. His actions have completely upended the line up and he is the only one to blame for this. Selfish. No place for hockey players like that on a team I cheer for IMO. That is all.

I'm not saying that the officiating was biased, but I still believe that it determined the outcome of the game.  They let the game get out of control.  They weren't calling anything, and then they were randomly calling random stuff like the Leafs' penalty that led to the second Boston goal, as you mentioned.  There was no consistency, and the refs' leniency played right into Boston's hands.  They know how to be just dirty enough that it flies under the radar.  And with the refs being so lenient on Thursday, it allowed Boston to wear the Leafs down badly.

You bring up a good point. If Kadri would have just pulled out the fists and started pummelling Wingels he probably only gets 5min+2min for instigating.  :-\

The problem is the Leafs are actually one of the least penalized teams.

They sit very near the bottom for PIM/game, total PIM, minors, etc.

If there's a conspiracy perhaps it's in the lack of penalties called against our opposition since we're also in the 28th range on that

BINGO! If you have a problem with the hit on Marner, don't hit him with a stick(or hip), hit him with your fists. In a lopsided game like Thursday's, this perhaps is more of a rallying cry than a dirty hit to the head  :o

And that there is playoff hockey. You have to push your limits, see how far the refs will stretch. The successful teams know when to pull up. Kadri has been very good the last couple seasons knowing that limit. Last night he seemed to forget.

Damn, Kadri, if you're going to go and get a 3-game suspension, earn it by smashing Marchand in the face, not by going after some schlub with a name like an orphan from a Dickens novel.
