Kovalchuk sweepstakes are on

I guarantee both Bracco and Dermott are better NHL defensemen than Marchenko, and at less money, without having played a game at that level.

Such a harsh indictment of Marchenko, as Bracco doesn't even play defense. He is literally a forward, and he also doesn't really defend.

Lol. My statement stands.

Must be thinking of someone else.

Maybe Nielsen? They're all from the same draft year.

Yeah, Nielsen. Couldn't be worse than Marchenko.

Marchy probably needs to go away and rebuild his game. He looked lost.

I thought it funny today when tsn.ca had both an article saying the Leafs were interested in Kovalchuk, then an article saying absolutely not, within the same screenshot.

I have heard he wants to go to the Olympics. He may be the best player there and could increase his stock with a good showing.

I dunno, he knew about the whole Olympics situation well before announcing his intention to return to the NHL. Sounds like the problem may have came from the Devils:

Probably didn't help that the two teams that were rumoured to be after him the most were divisional rivals (Rangers and Blue Jackets).

Seems like conflicting agendas. NJ probably had a price in mind and wanted whoever to meet it, Kovalchuk wanted to pick where he'd go and the price be whatever they felt like paying.

Can't blame him for wanting to pursue things as a UFA.

Why is he a UFA next year opposed to this year? What ever, he shouldn't be allowed back considering he walked away from $100M cap circumventing BS contract.

I don't really have an answer to the question aside from that's what the CBA says regarding players who retire from the NHL. The team they retire from has their rights for a certain while but not forever.

As to whether or not he should be "allowed" back, it strikes me as no different than the whole Olympic participation stuff. People said then that if Players wanted a voice in the process they should have bargained for it and here, well, if the League doesn't want to let players walk away from deals and come back eventually they should have bargained for that.
