Honestly the waiting was making me sweat a little so I'm glad this is finally official.

Yup, I would not be surprised if the NHL asked them to hold off until after the 2nd round.

A nice part of this is that it'll suck all the air out of the room in terms of the Jets making the conference finals, their fans will be furious that all the coverage will be about Toronto now today.

The big question now is what does Hunter do... and the answer is I don't care.

You joke but if Hunter leaves then the team won't have access to all of the top secret information about London Knights players like "Marner is good".

And Victor Met... oh wait.

I think Hunter has played a huge part in the success of the Marlies and the draft picks he's made that have seamlessly made the leap to the Leafs. I've been impressed with the kids in the system since Hunter came aboard. Certainly Hunter doesn't deserve all the credit, but man oh man I'd hate to see some other team pick him up.

Don't downplay his ability, it would definitely be blow to the organization if he leaves. He may not have the position he wants but couldn't the Leafs make him the highest paid scout on the planet?

The word was if he didn't get the Leafs job he'd consider going back to London... in which case the Leafs could just sign whatever other uber-OHL GM who wants to work here.

Shanahan was waiting for a break between series.  After game 7 last night, Leafs can take the focus today.

REAL PLEASED.

I'm sure he's fairly good at his job but beyond that I don't know that we know much about how good he is or what the impact of him leaving would be. The drafts on his watch have been...fine but I don't know that we can say anything more than that yet. I'm pretty confident that if he left and the Leafs felt they needed another high level AGM who would specialize in amateur scouting they could hire another pretty good one.

I think that's a little harsh.  Everything I read about Hunter suggests he's a solid hockey guy in terms of talent assessment.

But I guess the honeymoon starts today.

Does anyone want to put money down on Nick Kypreo's "sources" now?

"According to Kypreos? sources it?s Dubas? colleague Mark Hunter is the most likely candidate to succeed Lamoriello as Leafs GM."

Good one Nick, good one.
