Leafs @ Avalanche - Dec. 21st, 9:00pm - SNO, TSN 1050

Rielly easily #1 in TOI tonight at 25:16. That's his 5th 25+ minute game of the season.

Hands up if, before the season, you thought they'd have a shot at .500 at Xmas.  Crazy

As impressive as this rag tag team had been let's be honest this is a fake NHL .500

The leafs have 9 row,  last in the league.

I don't want to take anything away from them,  the fact that they are able to score more than 2 goals a game is shocking,  but this is still a last place team.

Yeah. They're on a nice run. They're playing like a middle of the pack team, but they have bottom of the barrel talent. It's not gonna last.

What's worrisome to me is that Polak was a clear 2nd with 22:28.

If you remove all the special teams time, I think all the D but Marincin were basically even at even strength.  I feel like Polak's TOI is always buoyed by like 4:00 of SH time.

(Sigh)  Man I hate this team... We had an opportunity to be the absolute worst, giving ourselves the best chance to get a franchise changing centre...

STOP GETTING POINTS YOU IDIOTS.

At this rate, it'll be impossible to catch Columbus...

Hmmm. I thought that it all hinged on the outstanding play of Reimer?

The leafs are only 2 points up on Columbus

4 games in hand though.

Anyways, despite the rosy-ish forecast from ownership, it looks like Coyotes' attendance is down again this year. Seems pretty hard to imagine they won't trigger the 50 million in losses escape clause on their lease if it doesn't pick up.

I have been down here for a month and have noticed that the economy seems seriously flat this year. Outside of a madhouse at Costco yesterday, most of our hangouts and venues have been way behind what we have experieced in the past few years.  I would think the Yotes would be part of this suffering as well.
I guess a lot of the snowbirds are staying at home because of the dollar ratio.  Amazing how important Canuks are to the economies of AZ and Florida

They don't need to trigger it, the City cancelled their contract and gave them an out after next season if they want it.

Same here and I'm enjoying watching the golf courses suffer after gauging us all last year with Super Bowl in town.

But wouldn't the losses this year trigger it anyway? Or did they entirely remove that provision from the deal?

I think the early out clause had the $50 million after so many seasons, maybe 5??  So just reaching $50 million in losses doesn't trigger it.  Either way they are done in Glendale asap, that relationship is strained to point of divorce.

I remember the clause differently, that if at any point their losses hit 50 million it would trigger the clause. So if they lost 50 million the first two seasons the clause would trigger but they still couldn't leave until after the fifth year.

Anyways, it looks like your second sentence is on point. Apparently they're considering a move to downtown Phoenix or Scottsdale. RIP Glendale. Stop spending money on stadiums.

Glendale was dumb to build a stadium.  Glendale was dumber to agree to last agreement with the Coyotes.  But Glendale's dumbest move was cancelling the agreement.  The area is actually starting to take shape and become what it was intended to be and now there will be an empty arena that they are paying millions to run without a tenant to bring bodies and tax fees for the area and the City. As to the out clause if they had lost $50 million in first 2 years and made money in following 3, would you believe they still had the right to leave?  I don't.
