LOL...somehow they find a way to give the Leafs a penalty.

So it should have been off-side but they're calling a penalty that occurred after that?  So weird.

Bizarre stuff!  Play should be dead, therefore, no penalty!

Of course, if the penalty was of the variety that could be called after a whistle, then sure, it's a penalty!

Is it though? Hypothetically if that was a much worse infraction would anyone say "Well, you know, technically the play..."

There is a difference between a goal not getting called on the ice (and then later being reviewed) and a goal being called back for an offside.  That absolutely should not be a penalty.

So his penalty occurred in space?  The time is recalled back to the offside.

I think the issue would be that hooking and holding would be considered interference penalties.  You can't really interfere in a non-play.  You can still call slashes, crosschecks or head hits because they would still be illegal contact penalties.

I think the same principle holds though. Even if the play should have been whistled dead, it wasn't.

Well, if the penalty still counted, so should the goal.  The penalty was a live play penalty, the ENTIRE play should be dead after the determination of the off sides.  JMHO.

But there wasn't a determination of offsides when the play was going on. The play was only whistled because of the goal.

This power-play is just an absolute clown factory. There's not a single player on it another team should be afraid of.

I've never seen a hooking penalty called during a dead clock situation.  Now, if it had been a slash, or high stick, or roughing, then sure, these types of penalties can be called after a whistle!

It wasn't a dead clock situation. The whistle didn't blow play dead until the goal.

The fact that the OFFSIDE call would have resulted in a whistle means that it ended up being a dead clock IMHO.  Why did they turn back the clock then???
