This one wasn't Andersen's fault.

He was just outplayed by the goalie at the other end. Right?

Seems to be a recurring theme with Andersen. It wasn't his fault the other goalie was just better.

It probably wasn't realistic to think they would go through a whole season without losing 2 in a row.  Still, this one is tougher to take than the last one.

Yes, that's why he has such a terrible losing record.  But if you want to blame him for Marner puking it up on the 4th goal and for the bad bounce on the go-ahead and the tip on the second goal, that's your call.

Not Marner's very best game.

What pisses me off the most is they aren't punished for poor play. Been horrible for 3 games. Staple his ass to the bench. Starting to wonder with his points he thinks he's in McDavid territory. Sorry Mitch you're no where near that calibre. Quit trying to be so fancy is his problem. I didn't watch any of the 3rd period which was a good thing. Maybe rushing Auston back was a mistake as he looks off and personally I think the team plays differently when he's not in the lineup. They seem to play better as a whole and everyone steps up their game in his absence. Don't get how you can smother the Oilers and play 3 flawless games and then look average against a Vancouver team that has looked awful defensively all year.

Exactly. Stop with the crap of the other guy outplayed him.

Oh come on Azzurri.  They aren't going to bench Marner and he's been great most of the season.  It's like saying bench Matthews because he hasn't scored in 5.  The whole team looked off these last two games.

You think Vancouver had more dangerous scoring chances than the Leafs? The Leafs were pushing hard all 3rd but Demko came up huge.  Sometimes you need your goalie to make a save.

You think what you want. He has been benched in the past. I don't expect 3 points a night from him but when you're dogging it defensively you need talking to or benched. Stars are stars and they are there to produce which isn't always going to happen but you still have to put in an effort defensively. Almost cost us in the second while on the PP with lazy back check. For me that's unacceptable.

I'm still wondering what the Leafs are trying to accomplish with their PP. Boyd on the first unit makes no sense to me.

No team can bring it every game. Impossible. They get to come home now and regroup. Let's see what happens Tuesday.

Or, you know, the coach recognizes that benching him isn't going to increase your chances of winning the game.

That line really struggled tonight (especially with Thornton) and it seemed like Marner was trying to make things happen all by himself. Forcing things, something he does at times. When it works he looks great, when it doesn't...he looks like tonight.

I think the problem might be more with Matthews who doesn't look right. And when Matthews is not at 100%, Marner has to take on much more of the responsibility because Thornton isn't going to be the one getting the puck into the offensive zone, he relies on someone else getting the puck deep and getting some cycling going. The line looked more effective when Hyman was in there but he can't play on every line.

Think Thornton might need a game off. Probably should have been the previous one (back to back).

I just watched the 3rd period goals. That line stunk especially Marner giveaway after giveaway. Peewee hockey from a 10.5 million dollar player. You don't think that deserves benching. Wow. Told you I would have talked to him if I was Keefe after that lazy back check in the 2nd and he wasn't any better before that. Sometimes they need to be put in their place.

My point is sometimes they have to be straightened out. I understand he's one of the stars but are you saying it's ok to dog it defensively and cough up the puck at will and foolishly. I only watched the goal highlights from the 3rd and he was the reason for 2 of them. But hey that's ok he's a star. Maybe if he would have sat the 3rd they don't score twice against us because of him. Can look at it that way to. Problem with Mitch is he tries to get cute too often.

I can?t ever recall a coach benching their superstar down by 1.

I guess you bench him and move Boyd up?  That?ll work out

But leaving him out there sure helped and worked out well didn't it.
