Leafs @ Capitals - Jan. 10th, 7:00pm - LeafsTV, TSN 1050

I get the reasoning. I just have to think there is enough pride among this group to pull together and break out of this free fall. Whether that happens tonight or not is the question of the day, but lets hope they find a way soon. This team is no way near as bad as the past three games would indicate.

Personally, I'd bench Franson. He just seems to be one of the guys who floats out there a lot, and has little 'fight-back' in him. They need to identify the guys who are still trying hard from the ones who just don't give a rats ass. (There appear to be many of the later)

Or they need to identify why they don't seem to give a rat's ass and address it.

It's more like there are holes in the boat and it's been gaining water for awhile, meanwhile Bernier and Reimer have been frantically bailing the boat trying to keep it afloat but the waves are getting higher, the storm clouds are moving in, and soon enough they won't be able to bail it out anymore.

Also, their arms are getting tired, so they're slowing down.

And they're headed for an iceberg. TITANIC!

You are not a Leaf fan if you hope they will lose.  A true Leaf fan always hopes for the best and does not entertain tanking?ever
Leave that for the Oilers fans?living proof that 15 first round picks does not a hockey team make?..LOL

I'm with Boxsixx, against all odds I think they'll win tonight.

Carlyle is far from my favorite coach but he's not an idiot either.  Even he must realize that his system needs changing, and now, or he won't be around much longer.  Whether he can revamp on the fly is another matter.

This one won't be close, Grabbo and Ovechkin in Washington?  It will be 3-0 by the end of the first.

I am getting the good whiskey for tonight.

First off, there is no actual notion of "true Leaf fan".  Everyone is different and they're entitled to be.  You have a version that you're trying to force on others by acting like it's accepted as fact.  People don't like that.

Second, I'm not advocating tanking.  If I was, I'd say something like, "I hope they trade everyone and lose every game for the rest of the season so they get the #1 pick".  But that's not even close to what I said.

Thirdly, I am hoping for what's best.  But, sometimes what's for the best is bad in the short-term.  It's the long-term where you see the true value.  And again, this isn't in regards to tanking.

Finally, I want them to lose this next game so badly that Nonis can't just sit by, anymore.  I would expect that if they not only get blown out again, but get super-duper blown out, Carlyle would get the axe.  This is the only reason I want them to lose 13-0 tonight.  I don't want a win or pathetic shootout streak to prolong the senseless failure of this team.

They wont fire Carlye before the Olmypics. I hope they dont lose like that

Yeah, I would generally agree, but after a 7-1 drubbing, 5-3 failure, and 6-1 drubbing, I would expect (hope?) a 13-0 devastation to expedite the process.

That's the point, I think. Those interested in the long term success of the team want the coach that doesn't know what to do with this team to be gone. I'll prefer brutal losses now to mediocrity and inevitable failure. If you think the goal's a cup, SO wins are really cheap highs.

Now that made me laugh.  Thank You

Why would you get the good whiskey?? Chances are pretty
darn good you're going to drink a LOT tonight and then, well, puke it up.

If you're going to waste it, buy the rotgut.....

I'm actually starting to wonder about that. It's not like this has only been happening for a couple weeks. This has been a trend all season and has been noticeably problematic since November. I'm starting to think that maybe Carlyle isn't really capable of adaptation. So far, we've seen one style of play that he's pushed on the Leafs. Anaheim fans talked about the same problems and the same system there. I think, when he started in Anaheim, he had the right personnel for his system. He had a lot of rough and tumble types. He had less of them as his time went on there and he doesn't really have them here. He's never really seemed to try anything different, and I think he probably needs some significant time away from coaching to develop alternatives he's comfortable with.

Ironic - A loss to the Leafs essentially ended Carlyle's run in Anaheim. They won the next game vs the Habs but his fate was sealed.

After Anaheim?s seventh straight defeat last Sunday night, a dispassionate 5-2 loss to Toronto, Carlyle lamented that his players sometimes seemed to be ?dead between the ears.? He was in a better mood after the Ducks handled the Canadiens, praising their tenacity and his stars? leadership through a tough stretch.

The victory vs the Habs was their 3rd in 19 games - they were a real bad team for a period there.

Furthermore, I doubt Grabovski scores. Odds are probably in favour of it not happening.

He's a decent player, but let's not all go crazy here.

Go Leafs Go, baby!

Watching the game on Washington TV feed and they were talking of how great the Grabbo line was last night and how it's gelling after he was thrown in with Fehr and Ovechkin.
