Leafs Centennial Plans Revealed

A couple of recent bit not very recent ones: Gary Roberts? Curtis Joseph? Belfour?

Not that it does/should really matter but when the Leafs kept talking about how much more there was to the Centennial season, a patch, replacing the old honoured banners and a blogosphere list of the 100 best players  doesn't really strike me as all that impressive particularly in comparison to Montreal's.

That's because it's not really the centennial. #Blueshirts #TeachtheControversy

They said they spoke to Montreal about theirs and Montreal advised that past a certain point it felt like a burden and became a distraction to the team. The Leafs said they had that sense and decided to key in on a few things they wanted and that was all.

Forget about who is on the list and who is off it.

I am more concerned whether they can find 100 decent players and with the demographics, i.e., while I can personally recall the four Stanley Cups in the 1960's, I rather expect that I am decidedly in the minority in this regard ---  and how many people can identify with the accomplishments of the Leaf teams in the still earlier decades?

After all, it has been very slim pickings for the last 50 years and selecting a team with more players from pre-1967 will be less appealing to current fans no matter how more accurate that list may be.

Sluggo is right, I am 60 and remember the 64 playoffs as my family was going nuts. But anything before that is out of sight.  Yes we remember being told about some of the greats like Happ Day and Charlie Conacher, Turk Broda etc. but my list starts with Davy Keon, Chief George Armstrong, Tim Horten, Allen Stanley, Bobby Baun, Johny Bower etc and continues with Daryl Sittler, Lanny, Mike Palmeteer and of course Borje Salming. After that it is up to us all, the ones that were not around for the true glory years to make the list.
But we cannot forget the way past.  Howie Meeker, King Clancy and so forth.

Here's an interesting comparison chart:

"Tired" (played last night") vs "rested" (did not play last night) for the 16-17 season.

Why can't the Leafs get that Edmonton schedule?

Or even a perfectly balanced one, like the Habs.  :o

Interesting graphic I bet ANA has always been on the winning end of this graphic... all those Sunday games.
