The #leafs have claimed Curtis McElhinney on waivers.

New back-up goalie. Was somewhat expected.

McElhinney's 33 years old, and is on an expiring contract with a cap hit of $800k. Journeyman back-up goalie. He has a save percentage of .924 in 7 appearances for Columbus this season, but was waived after a poor start in favour of one of their younger goalies. He had a .890 save percentage last year in Columbus, but prior to that his stats look decent for a back-up.

The Leafs have made a trade at 1 a.m. Jhonas Enroth has been dealt to Anaheim for a seventh round pick.

Not a surprise, but, also feels kind of pointless. He's put up good numbers behind a strong Columbus team (as weird as that is to say), but, in terms of career numbers, he's basically the same as Enroth. Not worth getting upset about, but, don't expect him to be an upgrade in any meaningful way.

6'3" > 5'10". The stats don't lie man.

Ok maybe they do.

Meh, he's got over 100 career starts in the NHL, has to be better than a kick to the head.

Ramo was/is on a PTO, correct?  So, they can simply cut him loose from the Marlies?

Yeah. He hasn't played in about a month anyway because of another injury too.
Jeff Glass was also released from his PTO earlier this week, so the Marlies are going to roll with Bibeau, Sparks, and Enroth (maybe re-waive him when the time limit is up?).

I believe the Leafs can still place Enroth on waivers right now if they wanted to, it's just not required for reassignment.

Enroth won't require waivers again unless he comes back up to the NHL again and reaches 10GP or 30-days on the active roster.  I'm not sure what his current count towards those are as he was called up since being put on waivers.  In any case, if he remains with the Marlies the rest of the year he won't require waivers again.

No, he'd require waivers immediately, as it's been more than 30 days since he last cleared waivers. The "being in the NHL part" applies to emergency recalls.

Whatever the minutae of Enroth's waiver status is, he should be moved and given a chance elsewhere.

Then why didn't he require waivers to be sent down today?  He was originally waived Dec. 5th and its now Jan. 10th.

"A player does not need to pass through waivers if the player has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, and has not played in 10 or more NHL games. CBA Reference 13.2(b)"

EDIT:  Btw, I was under the same impression as you.  I thought the 30-day thing was "since originally put on waivers", but its not, its "30 days on the NHL roster" that makes you eligible for waivers again.

I don't think he's hit the 30-day quota on the roster, since he was yo-yo'd any time the Leafs had a break.

I'm trying to count the days...

Edit: Looks like he has spent about 9-10 days on the Leafs roster since he was waived.

Up Dec 16-20th, Dec 24-28, Jan 8-10.

It's 10, if you go by 24 hour periods (all transactions seem to happen at noon).
It's 13 if you consider up Monday at noon, down Tuesday at noon as two days, but I doubt it.
