Heck, throw in the Beauchemin for Lupul/Gardiner deal and things are downright solid.

Brian Burke, captured here in oils on canvas by Erasmus Quellinus, as he gives a parting glance to the house he once built.

Don't forget we sent them Holzer for Brewer & a 5th...

They sent us Holland for Blacker & a 3rd and 7th

Steckel for a 7th, Mark Fraser for Dale Mitchell, Mike Brown for a 5th, Caputi for Deschamps, even the trade up to draft Tyler Biggs was with Anaheim...

Good Lord, we've traded with a Ducks a lot...

That's right. The Leafs had the Gibson pick.

And our goaltending ledger gets weaker.

OK, let's tear off the scab one more time: Burke, or JFJ?who's more legendary?

In my old age, I've gotten considerably mellower when it comes to those two. I save my bile for ownership.

Every idiotic move by those 2 and Nonis inevitably led us to the Matthews-era, so I love them all.

I always did have a soft spot for JFJ.  But he wasn't very good.

Yeah, and now look at what Matthews is doing, pissing away his time when he could be contemplating what it will take to make his team champions:

They're acting like a bunch of teenagers, for chrissakes.

His drafts were pretty good. It'd have been interesting to see him get the chance to rebuild.

I'm not sure interesting is the word I would choose there.

The thing about drafts is that, usually, the GM really only has significant input on 1st round picks. It's often the head of scouting that makes the decisions from there on out. JFJ gave the scouting staff a solid direction, but I can't give him credit for their decisions.

The Leafs are still benefiting from coming in last a year ago. They get 1st dibs on waiver players that become available and then get a 7th for Enroth...I'm impressed.

Yeah, this part is not true. Hasn't been since like the beginning of November.

I'm not sure what you mean?

The Leafs haven't been 1st in the waiver priority for more than 2 months now. The last place team doesn't retain that for the entire next season. They only get it for the first couple weeks.

The Leafs were 15th in the queue when they claimed McBackup. Thanks to some shifts in the standings, they're now 14th.

You know ZBBM, thats an astute observation. I hate to see these kidz having as good a time on the beach as they are on the ice.

Better than a kick in the head with a frozen Moccasin.

Better than a puck in the backend from a slapshot as well.

McElhinney can't do any worse then Enroth did, and 7th round pick does not hurt, I don't mind the trade.
