What. A. Game. So many things we haven't seen in a long while. Activation, cycle, support, chatter. Most satisfying win of the season. I'm looking forward to the next one! Congrats Coach Keefe!

They benefited from some long overdue puck luck, especially early on, but really shut down the Yotes as things progressed.  More movement in the o-zone than the rest of the season combined.  Can't wait to see how the PP looks.

I guess but I mean it goes both ways. I think the Leafs could've had more.

I wouldn't say so much as the other way.  Tavares certainly had a good game, though, and if he keeps it up they'll start going in for him.

Dubas has been trying to bring the gegenpress to the NHL and he now has the buy-in to do so between tactics and personnel decisions; it's going to take time to fully implement because it requires a lot of coordination and play reading from the players on the ice.

Watching Matthews interview after the game, he seems like a very happy fellow now.

The entire team looked rejuvenated.  This win was like a breath of fresh air, long coming and deserved.

GO LEAFS GO!

Some quotation:

?I think our whole team was a little more aggressive and had a little bit more speed to the neutral zone, and we had a lot of fun out there," Barrie said. "We kind of felt excited. It was like a fresh start."
- Tyson Barrie

"We knew there was a big shakeup over there and they were going to come out hungry, and that's what they did. They kept things simple, worked hard, and got rewarded."
- Coyotes goaltender Darcy Keumper.

This wasn?t really a different ?system? than what Babcock used in previous years. The main difference was the restraining collars were off and players were told to just play comfortable. Minor adjustments like prioritize maintaining possession and getting aggressive and creative with skill replaced dump it safe and don?t screw up.

We still need to work on maintaining our focus and effort when the going gets tough and space is taken away and staying aggressive on separating/retrieving pucks when we don?t have it.

There also weren?t going to be massive changes based on a single game day practice and maybe some team meeting conversations the evening before.  The defense being allowed to pinch more with the forwards actually backing them up was nice.  I also liked that a few times Keefe had Matthews come out first on the forward lien change so he was out with Tavares once or twice until the full change happened.

So it?s disappointing that the team basically had it in them all along but held themselves back either tactically or emotionally due to the coach.

Steve Dangle theorized that losing DJ Smith from the room, while maybe a tactical positive, was a relational minus. He was a genial buffer between the team and Babcock. You can see in Ottawa how much his players want to work for him.
