Leafs @ Devils - Apr. 5th, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Crap Devils score. Moment I jump on here. That being said, there are couple of things I'd like to give Jake Gardiner props for.

He takes a lot of crap for different things, but here a couple of things I'd really like to praise him for  - often overlooked and never really mentioned.

1. He keeps an incredible number of plays in at the offensive blueline with his speed, his ability to knock or gloves pucks down or simply corral bouncing pucks. I think he is far better at it than any other Leaf blueliner and better than most I've watched on other teams.

2. He rarely gets caught on a bad pinch (despite his risk-taking to keep pucks in, which makes it even more impressive). I mean when was the last time you saw a highlight with Gardiner getting caught up ice. Pretty impressive in my opinion. Just watch him, he's is really skilled at keeping pucks in without getting burned.

Just my two cents worth.

Carrick has spent most of this game turning the puck back North from the neutral zone, stuffing it at the OZ blueline or the redline on very aggressive gap ups.

Hard to take him out when Dermott is back, given how solid he?s been at both ends. I wonder if Babcock considers playing him over Zaitsev.

I've long been an Uncle Leo fan, with his agitating style of play and effort plus he could be counted on to chip in on offence as well. I knew this was his last contract year and was hoping Leafs could bring him back.

That was at the beginning of the season.

I still see the effort but yee gawd has he slowed down and he's a black hole with the puck.

Thanks for your time as a Leaf Uncle Leo....

Kinkaid is pretty good

Poop, they scored again! Devils 2 - Leafs 1

Come on Kadri, make a hit and stop Maroon next time!

Go Leafs Go!

The amount of interference the Devils have gotten away with is out of control.

At the same time, Matthews has to be better. He can get pretty passive under physical pressure.

Not his best game, but I have to think that at some level they are also trying not to get hurt, despite whatever they say to the contrary.

Babcock doesn?t yet trust him in the defensive end (and I don?t blame him). Carrick still gets turned around in his own zone on rushes that make it over the line. I hope they give him more of a look next season (if they qualify him).
