And so with the end of the turtle derby the hard part begins: beating Edmonton at the lottery.

Tonight's game was by and large unwatchable. It should have had a "viewer's discretion" warning for this playing bantam and under.

That said, New Jersey's final goal was a piece of work.

Disgusting.  A new historical franchise low.  Worst finish in over 30 years.  I think I'm more disgusted that the franchise achieved it on purpose. I hope they get to draft 4th.
What's your problem?
Just that this is year 49 of the tank and management has found a way to sell it such that people will buy it.  I remember when courtnall clarke and leeman would turn this frachise around. so yeah nylander, marner and whomever ...

Do you think the team was tanking during the Quinn years?

you mean the years where jonas hoglund and a hobbled mogilny were toronto's championship calibre 1st line wingers?

Personally thinking, this was the year for me for the team to hit 30th and rock bottom and shockingly it happened. Usually the hockey Gods jam a stick in the spokes of the Leafs...

Now we'll get another good player at 4th or better, and next year we'll have some exciting kids on the team and if we solve the goaltending I see some nice incremental improvements. Some have said another 30th place but I don't see that.

Please Lou, just stick to the Shanaplan!

I don't understand this. It's not hard, it's not easy. It's a simple mathematical probability.

It's also not something that can exert any influence over. Whatever happens in the lottery happens. They've already done all they can do.

Sure, if you live in a vacuum. But we have curses, and hockey Gods, and those sorts of things to account for.

I honestly don't know if you're trolling or not, but if you're serious, what alternative do you propose the Leafs do to build up this team? Apart from drafting and developing as best they can, is there another way to build a winning team? The best chance at a franchise player in this draft was to finish 30th and they've done that.

True enough, I didn't account for those things or the fact that Bettman will screw the Leafs, etc.

You're a fan like anyone else and can say and think whatever you want, but I don't really see a point in being a fan if every you're bitter unless they win the Cup.

Thats funny, because it feels like tankers are trolls to me.
I bought tickets to the Home game against columbus at the start of the season, thinking that there would be alot of change in the roster.  And there has been.  At the game there was a lot of ahl players who are clearly not nhl ready, and i question whether they will ever be. Garret Sparks is not an Nhl goalie...  They didnt ice the best players in their roster, essentially throwing games down the stretch.  Yet this is okay because they are doing it for a high draft pick.  it could be that this coming draft pick is franchise altering but it most likely isnt.  how will people feel if all it does is get the leafs a string of 8 place finishes.  i would be happy with those results, would you? A cup would be nice but its not a requirement for me to support them. I need to turn on the tv to watch the game knowing that theres a chance to be entertained.  Because of the roster, the last 5 years, this hasnt happened, the end of this season being the worst thing i've ever seen.  Its a new low for me as leafs fan, I am stunned by the excitement of the rest of you..

I don't know how hope for the future, with a good coach, good management team and better prospects and drafting coming down the pipe means people shouldn't be excited.

I'm happy with the process, not just the result.
