I'm pretty sure that's a pretty standard call.  You can't cover the puck that far out.

You can when there's a player from the other team right there. It happens all the time with no call made.

I don't believe I've ever seen a goalie cover it that far out and not get a penalty.  I'm 99% sure that's a pretty standard penalty.

I'd be a lot more upset about the refs if the Leafs hadn't gifted Montreal two goals. They just keep shooting themselves in the foot.

I'm going to look on the bright side on this one.  They played a great 3rd/OT until 3 out of 4 calls in a row went the Habs' way: Gleason's intereference (not), JVR's dive (not), Kessels DOG (yes), and then Bernier's DOG (horsepoo).

From the NHL page:

If a goalkeeper comes out of his crease to ?cut down the angle? on a shot and after making the save covers the puck, this shall be legal. If the goalkeeper races out of his crease in an attempt to beat the attacking player to the puck and instead of playing the puck jumps on the puck causing a stoppage of play, this shall be a minor penalty for delay of game.

Yeah, I'm with AA on this. Anywhere out of the crease really, I've seen Delay of Game penalties for goalies freezing the puck behind the goal.

So that's two games in a row Bernier has cost us now  ;)

I have, and, it really wasn't that far out. When Bernier got the puck, he was near the edge of the face-off circle. Goalies cover the puck out near that area on a regular basis. His momentum took him out further, but, where he got the puck, he was absolutely in a legit position to cover it.

Another blown lead in the 3rd. It continues to be worrisome. Doesn't seem like this team has learned to protect a lead after that epic Game 7 collapse. In fact it seems like last year's team was better at it.

Less of a blown lead than the refs gifting them a PP on the Gleason call.

63.2 Minor Penalty - A minor penalty shall be imposed on any player, including the goalkeeper, who holds, freezes or plays the puck with his stick, skates or body in such a manner as to deliberately cause a stoppage of play. With regard to a goalkeeper, this rule applies outside of his goal crease area.

I thought it's called when no player is within the vicinity. Briere was right on top of him.

And Subban's stick breaking led to a perfect pass.

I still call BS.

The last two penalties were penalties, but it was the call against Gleason that turned the tide. The game should have never gone to overtime.

That said, the Leafs should have shown up in the first...

True. While it was a bad call I'd consider killing a key penalty late in the game part of being able to protect the lead.
