Hopefully this one will end up similar to this beauty game exactly 11 years ago.

God I miss Bob Cole

I remember that game.

I remember that game as well.  Very similar to the "ping" playoff game.  Darcy Tucker looked confused at first, and then decided to just say "whoo".

I watched the third period and OT at a bar on Yonge having missed the first two periods because I was seeing The Departed.

Plan to be back there next June.  They'll open early for the parade.

Do I have to see The Departed again?

You do.  And drink exactly what you had tonight, only more of it.

Can he sub the movie for the band or vice versa?

I think some of the criticism Andy got tonight was unwarranted.  The first goal definitely had a stink to it, but otherwise he played well.  Can't really fault him on the other goals in my mind.

This is what Matthews had to say on the OT-thrilling goal & on Andersen:

"So (Anderson) mafe a huge save and we just kind of turned it back the other way and (Nylander) made an unbelievable pass to me and I was able to sink it in."

Bravo.

Nice to win the extra point a few times early on after the 17 losses last year or whatever it was.  Most importantly they avoided the shootout and get the ROW too. 8 of 10 to start the year.  Ill take it.

Just for grins I went over to the Montreal Gazette to see how they treated the game.  Two article by the same guy -- and to read them you would have thought the Canadiens won the game.  This is the headline from the lead story:

Habs Game Report: Bitter rivals battle to 3-3 draw, but Leafs prevail in OT

Somebody needs to explain to him that there are no "draws" in the NHL these days.

The secondary article about Price is also eye-rolling, including when he disses Andersen.

Thought the game was very chippy, no flow, frustrating, what happened to carrying the puck into the zone. All seemed like dump and chase.
Marner is my major frustration, perhaps the only one is in a sophomore slump?  His play is not what it was. Perhaps I am wrong on this but seems so.
Anderson just seems OK enough to win.
Thank God for A. Matthews.

Remember the kid had/is recovering from mono.

He still needs work defensively, although I still maintain that he looks worse in that regard because of who he plays with/is having to cover for.

He?s been close offensively and just seems snakebitten, things will click for him soon I am sure.

Noticed the same thing about Marner and that he seems kind of off-key.  If he's still recovering from his bout with Mono then that is understandable.

I too have no qualms that everything will eventually click for him.

The mono thing was 6 months ago, I'm pretty sure he's well past the recovery phase for it at this point. It sure didn't seem to effect him at the World Championships where he was 2nd among Canadians in scoring. I think it's perfectly fine to just say that he hasn't been at his best 5 games into the season.

Again, I don't know if we're giving Matthews too much credit... but nah. We're not.

Yeah. That line is a defensive mess right now.

And, even with him appearing a little off, he's still put up 4 points in 5 games, so, I'm not exactly concerned. He's merely been good offensively, rather than great.

Good point, I wonder how many players league-wide have been demoted to the fourth line after registering four points in five games?

Don't let their proficiency on the Power Play mask that they haven't been good 5-on-5.  I'm sure Marner won't be demoted off the power play that is working very well.

Marner has 1 secondary assist at Even Strength.  3 GF, 7 GA while he's been on the ice.  (3 and 6 for Bozak/JvR)
However, the advanced measures tell a bit of a different story:  2.6 xGF, 2.22 xGA. 58.1% CF.  82.71 PDO.  Those measures say they have been good but unlucky.  I'd say they don't match up with the eye test where they probably deserve closer to 7 GA than 2 GA.

I don't think anyone is saying he's been good. More that he hasn't been that bad, and there's probably no sense in worrying about him yet.

(Also, for the sake of accuracy, he has 2 secondary assists at ES)

Corsica seems to be missing one of his points, as they only have him listed as having 3 points so far. Ooops.

Only 5 games into the season.  No reason to be too worried for sure.  But, that line hasn't been good defensively so I don't mind Babcock trying to send a message.
