I wouldn't consider any responses in here to be "worked up."

I wasn't exactly referencing anything here, but one person did call it "idiotic". And mostly everybody seems to think Doughty was criticizing the top line. I'm sure he and the Kings are smart enough to be able to look up their stats. He was just pointing out that in order to contain them they need to be careful and not allow them to breakout freely.

Whoa man, no need to go off on me like that.  ;)

Lets never fight again.

Just like Colton Orr.

I thought this was a neat point, from a Curtis Rush article:

10. Toronto was the 15th team to play consecutive road games against the California teams this season. The Leafs are only the fifth team to skate away with at least three points: Chicago (five points), Philadelphia and New Jersey (four points) and Columbus (three points). Again, this is from Elias Sports Bureau in New York.

We're #1! We're #1!

Good coverage Dion.

He's got to be hurt.

Doesn't he?

I don't know. Never liked him never will. You're not voted by the players as the most over-rated player for no reason. Couple good years with Calgary and everyone thought he was the next great thing. Rielly makes better decisions.

That's animal cruelty! That horse is alive!

Alright. They've had a days rest. They're time adjusted, and Bernier's in net. No excuses tonight boys.

Let's get a W!

THIS! GLG

I think they could have beaten San Jose too if they were better rested and not coming off an all out effort against Anaheim the night before. This Leaf team is surprising. When they are 'ON' they are hard to beat, even by the very best teams in the league.

BTW, if they are planning on trading Reimer in the summer, last nights effort certainly didn't lower his stock.

The Leafs have been coming out strong against the big teams this year, and losing to the weaker ones.  If they can get to the bottom of that motivation problem, I think they're in great shape.  All sports are head game like that, though.  It's a lot easier said than done.

I wish I had stayed up to see Reimer play; I would have, if I had known he was going in net.  That's totally karma for abandoning the team.  My bad.

Agreed. They've had their struggles with motivation and inconsistency, but I think I'd rather have a team that has difficulties beating weaker teams on occasion than one that can't ever beat the better teams in the league.

IMO, Motivation becomes less of an issue in the playoffs, when teams know they can't afford to take a night off every now and then. (At least the Leafs overcame that problem last spring in the series against the Bruins, they just couldn't hold down the fort in the final frame, on back to back nights.)

I think they've slowly become a better team this season, and with guys like Bernier, Bolland, Raymond, and Reilly added to the mix, it should be real fun watching them this spring!

Leafs were mostly like this during the Sundin era as well....and since watching the period between then and now..i think I've decided it's better to be in a situation where you lose sometimes to the weaker teams..but show up against the strong ones...then the kind of team that just wins the games they're supposed to ..and doesn't have a hope in hell against the ones they don't ...

I don't know how far they'll go..but i don't get the impression this is a team that will role over and die

Drew Doughty thinks our first line are one dimensional cherry pickers that only look for breakaways,

SCOREBOARD, suck it Drew.

I don't recall them cherry-picking for breakaways very often at all.

It's a pretty idiotic comment considering JvR and Bozak are two of the better defensive forwards on the team.

He said they were "one-dimensional" and then said a bunch of stuff about their speed etc.  I don't think he ever said anything about cherry-picking though.

@markhmasters

Doughty on shutting down JVR-Bozak-Kessel: "We know they play one dimensional ... Cheat for breakaways"

OK then.  In that case, screw you Drewdrew.

I'm not sure if the Leafs can beat San Jose.  San Jose strikes me as very much what the Bruins were a couple of years ago.  They are all huge, pretty much every single one of their lines can score.  All four lines cycle very well with good possession numbers.  San Jose is deceptively fast too so if you actually get into a bit of a run and gun style of game, they can keep up for a good stretch of the game.

LA on the other hand is slow and plodding.  They strike me a little bit more like the Bruins of the past two years who have lost some pieces and can't play nearly as good of a shut-down role against very fast teams.  If they can prevent teams from starting to use their speed, they dominate, but if you get them on their heels a bit, they become vulnerable and tire out.

Let's keep in mind with the Kings game that the Leafs probably should have been blown out in this one.  Bernier made a ridiculous save to prevent the game from being 3-0.  Reimer made two ridiculous saves that you can't expect your goaltender to make.  There were also a number of high quality scoring chances where you might shake your head for not getting the huge save, but you really can't blame the goaltender for letting it in.

If the Leafs don't have two of the better goaltenders in the league, this is a completely different game.  Personally I think the Kings traded the wrong goaltender.  I think Bernier's the better of the two keepers.

Any thoughts on this?

Leafs handling a potential concussion poorly? Check. The NHL not really enforcing the quiet room rule, particularly for goalies? Check. Old news really.

Anyone have the actual 'rule'?  Hard to comment, otherwise, I think.

This is the best that I could find:

Starting tonight, players suspected of having a concussion will be removed from the game and sent to a quiet place free from distraction so they can be examined by the on-site team physician. The physician will use the Sports Concussion Assessment Tool test to evaluate the player. Symptoms include loss of consciousness, motor incoordination or balance problems, a blank or vacant look, slow to get up after a hit to the head, disorientation, clutching of the head after a hit or visible facial injury in combination with another symptom.
