Game Notes

TOR
?Curtis McElhinney (1-0-0, 3.00 GAA, .909 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
?Babcock confirmed that Kapanen and Polak will come into the Leafs line-up. He didn't confirm who comes out but I'm guessing the obvious suspects: Leivo and Carrick
?Babs also said that he liked Marleau at centre and that he'll stay there against LA

LA
?Quick (7-2-1, 1.89 GAA, .942 Sv%) will likely start for the Kings
?LA currently has the lowest goals against in the league, averaging just 2 against per game. They're 9th in goals for per game too
?The Kings won 3 straight after losing to the Leafs last week before dropping their last game against St. Louis
Injuries

?Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
?Joffrey Lupul - Actually Injured - Out indefinitely
Code:

?Oscar Fantenberg - Back - Questionable Thursday
?Jeff Carter - Ankle - Injured Reserve
?Kyle Clifford - Upper Body - Injured Reserve

I love how hockey reveals the deeper meaning of the universe.  Next up: LouLam cracks the mystery of Dark Matter.

The Carrick thing surprises me. I thought Babs would at least stick with him until a loss gave him an excuse to go back to Polak.

Leivo wasn't that good last night. Decent on the PP but not effective at evens (that line was smushed).

Tonight: Kapanen draws in on Kadri's wing alongside Komarov. It will also be interesting to see which of them draws the most penalties, beit through speed, dramatics, or annoyance.

Polak coming in for Carrick is baffling (as was Polak's signing and usage last season, so whatever); he had a relatively good showing against the Kings last week in his first game back, but that could've just been the adrenaline talking. Polak literally cannot keep up with the play.

It's a small sample so far, but the Leafs are giving up 10 more chances per 60 minutes with Polak on the ice than the next worst defenseman (Zaitsev) at 70 CA60, and generates the lowest chances for to boot. He's not being buoyed by magical GF numbers this year either. His sheltered minutes these past four games have largely been with Bozak's line, leading to some of Bozak's worst showings in the past 3 seasons. Carrick has been the Leafs' best shot suppressor in limited minutes by comparison, nearly 25 fewer CA60 (47.35).

But Polak is a great shot blocker! His FA60 is currently the worst on our defense, nearly a -15 pt spread from his FF60.

I missed the Philly game and so am looking forward to seeing Kapanen for the first time this year.  I have the feeling that he'll turn out to be one of those clutch players who comes up big when it counts the most.  (Admittedly, maybe I am putting too much stock into his WJC-winning goal, along with a projecting onto him the vague memory of his father helping to stick a shiv in our playoff ribs way back when.)

GO LEAFS GO

Here's a neat vid I found today of Austin, Mitch, Freddy and Matt getting tracked down in Maple Leaf Square mall by what appears to be professional autograph seekers. What's funny is that Austin recognizes them and goes "you guys are back eh?" and Martin is like "fellahs... what are we sellin' 'em for?" ;D Also, Mitch is so slender compared to the other three guys. The long season has got to take a toll on you when you're constantly getting bounced around by guys who are fifty pounds heavier than you.

Hey disco, sorry to keep bothering you but you mentioned in last night's GDT that the YT link I'll probably require for tonight  :) is posted on that guy's FB page ... but I can't find it.  Can you either PM with the FB address or else with the link when you get it?  Hopefully I won't need to ask again, this only seems to be a problem for me when they are on the West Coast.  Muchas gracias!

Don't have to work tomorrow so I finally get to watch one of these West coast games. Hopefully the Buds can best the beastly Kings once again. Kings looked pretty darn good last time, so it might be a tall task.

Go Leafs Go!

Leivo's point streak comes to an end, and so, too, does his place in the lineup.

He should have worked harder.  Had he scored a point Babcock only would have benched him for 5 months.  Now he won't play until 2022.

Gardiner blows a tire and can't get the puck out. Not much chance for McElhinney. He's actually made a couple of nice saves so far.
