Leafs Next Coach?

Have you been to Detroit, it is like Hell on Earth. Who the F--K would want to live there. Sorry but you need a lobotomy to love that city.

That's like saying nobody would sign with the Hawks because what it's like in the South Side of the Chicago or the Kings because of South-Central. Get outside the downtown of Detroit and it's really not that much different from a lot of major American cities.

Nik you are a bright guy, the city is a ghetto for the most part and many social/ethnic problems which makes Toronto look like the Emerald City. Heck Shannaplan can be our Wizard of Oz.
I have been there and of course there are some neighbourhoods that look like Rosedale and some other quaint charming neibourhoods, but on the whole they have lost millions of their inhabitants leaving it like a sinking ship.
You do not go downtown at night without some knowledge.
Toronto does look like heaven in comparison. And forget Buffalo.

Suburbs man, suburbs.

Thanks, albeit I have no idea what you mean by "ethnic problems". One of the things about being relatively bright is that I know things like the relatively sheltered lives most Athletes live and how the larger state of a city's economic reality only has a small impact on the actual experience most of these guys have. Playing for the Detroit Red Wings doesn't mean you live in Detroit, you're probably going to live in Oakland County which is, as JGSC hinted at, one of the richest counties in the United States. That's where the people who left Detroit went.

I know people who actually lived and worked in Oakland County and they, to a person, would say that the state of Downtown Detroit had literally no impact on their lives.

Some of the suburbs of Detroit aren't anything to write home about either!

I have yet to see a suburb that was.

One News Eve I slept in Windsor on a drive to Florida. Up at 6AM, turned on the car radio and there had already been 6 murders in the first 6 hours of the year.
I drove through Detroit like a bat out of hell.

When stopping at red lights, listen for a tap on your window, and have your wallet ready. ;) when I lived in windsor, this actually happened to a friend of mine when we went over to Detroit to catch a concert one evening.

Never, ever, take your wallet out!  It's as good as gone when you open your window.  Instead, have a few dollar bills ready to hand out. Crack the window only enough to slip a bill out to the beggar!

Lol. I didn't mean a beggar. I meant a gun pointed at you.
