Leafs @ Panthers - Apr. 10th, 7:30pm - LeafsTV, TSN 1050

I think that its very likely that Gardiner's NHL career is really just a warmup for an appearance in the battle of the blades.

Caps win means the Leafs can't catch them. Guaranteed 11th going into the lottery (since the Devils are picking 30th regardless).

Yeah and with the way things went tonight, 9th is looking pretty optimistic heading into the lottery.

Even if we're not convinced about the difference a few spots makes, it still gives the team room to manoeuvre, and possibly trade down and add more picks possibly.

So...Ottawa is officially ahead of us now, and Nashville if they hold out for the W tonight?

Yeah Ottawa is ahead due to having played less games, while Nashville is ahead due to more ROW.

My last post for the night about tanking, lol.

I just checked and Vancouver is a solid bet to pass us too, assuming we don't win on Saturday. They're winning 1-0 right now, and have 2 games left: against pathetic Edmonton, and Calgary.

8th is looking not too bad right now.

So with 2 meaningless games on the slate, Carlyle/Leafs choose to give Orr 5+ minutes of ice last night  rather than bringing up some young players and giving them some time.  Am I missing something here?

My understanding is that the Leafs are too tight to the cap to allow much of this.

So Granberg was here on emergency standby ... Ranger was ill & other guys banged up, per Carlyle

I understand that you have to ice a competitive lineup to not raise the wrath of the league but if Ranger and Phaneuf are banged up why not play Granberg in these last two games.  And why make the priority of playing Trevor Smith over say Holland.

Step 1 - Waive Colton Orr
Step 2 - Cap space

Unfortunately, step 1 is not an option after the trade deadline.

Yeah, I know.  It's just an excellent highlight of why carrying a million dollar fighter who doesn't fight and goes 91 games between goals isn't remotely smart.
