Game Notes

TOR
?Sparks (6-2-1, 3.00 GAA, .905 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Sparks will be playing in his first game in about 3 weeks as he was out with a concussion. Granted that is about how long he goes without starts even without being injured

FLA
?Luongo (8-11-1, 3.35 GAA, .892 Sv%) will likely start for the Panthers
?Luongo let in 5 goals on 22 shots against the Leafs about a month ago before being pulled in the 3rd period
?Don't bother googling them I swear Hawryluk, Lammikko, and Kiselevich are all real hockey players
?The Panthers are one of the worst teams in the league and are 0-5-2 in their last 7 games and yes they still think none of this would have happened if they only just kept Erik Gudbranson. All hail Dale Tallon
Injuries

?Tyler Ennis - Ankle - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Derek MacKenzie - Shoulder - Injured Reserve
?Jamie McGinn - Back - Injured Reserve
?Vincent Trocheck - Ankle - Injured Reserve
?MacKenzie Weegar - Concussion - Injured Reserve

Hope Sparks is not super rusty after missing all that time.  I know he usually sits for long stretches being the backup, but it's a bit different in this case coming off a concussion.

I forgot Ennis is on the team.

Wonder what happens to him when he gets back. He was putting in the effort and showing some nice flashes of skill, but his possession numbers were dreadful. 45% on the season, worst on the team. And in the 10 games he played in December that was down to 37%.

vs Big team: Lindholm - Gauthier - Brown

vs Fast team: Ennis - Lindholm - Brown

I'm both lazy and don't actually know where to look/if we have the stats for lines vs. individual players but what were the 4th lines possession numbers with Moore vs. without him?  Watching the team I felt like they were better with him on it but that might just be observation bias.

I hope Marincin and/or Holl get some minutes.
Ozhiganov looks like he could use a break.

Seconded.  He was ... shall we say "shaky" last  nite.

In the 6 games that they played together the Lindholm-Gauthier-Moore line had a 57% CF. When Gauthier and Lindholm play with each other without Moore their CF is 45%.

I don't even get the sense that Babcock really even likes/trusts Oz that much. He often gets benched late in close games. Last night he played a season low of 9 minutes.

I would like to see Moore back ...maybe sit the Goat...but it is probably an issue with the number of call-ups...

Yeah probably. Oz was pretty good the game before, unlike basically everyone else.

Moore's good, eh?

Barring injury, or maybe an extended road trip while Ennis is out, they're not going to call him up for reals until after the deadline as it eats into our deadline cap space and his ELC also requires additional performance bonus buffer.

At this point in the season, he's unlikely to hit any of his available bonuses, so it's a non-issue. In fact, after tonight's game, he won't eligible for all but the goal, assist, and point total bonuses, and it's unlikely he'll be able to pot 20 goals, 35 assists, or 60 points for the season in 41 games with 4th line minutes.

I don't put it on OZ last night, not that he was good by any stretch. . I thought Dermott was worse and caused a lot of grief for the pair. Nice to see Jake and Zaitsev step up tho. Both had really good games.

Don't we need to have buffer space for max performance bonus outcomes during the course of the season?

Only for bonuses that can/will be hit. The concern has to be with the carryover. If there's nothing to carryover, it's unnecessary. Moore isn't going to hit is bonuses, so, it's a non-issue.
