Game Notes

TOR
?Andersen (2-1-0, 3.37 GAA, .892 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Expect the same lines from Toronto as we saw in Dallas, meaning Gauthier and Oz will remain in the place of Johnsson and Marincin

DET
?Jonathan Bernier, who apparently signed a 3-year deal with the Wings this summer, could get the start against his former team
?The Wings have been hit with quite a few injuries to start the season, especially at D. Veterans Green, Ericsson, and Daley are all out, as is rookie Cholowski. Kronwall will likely play his first game of the season after missing the first 3 with an injury

Marty!

Also, Howard will be starting for Detroit not Bernier.

I didn't see it but Jonas Siegel mentioned there was chatter about cycling all the scratches in on the back half of the B2B in Chicago; they ended up doing most, but not Holl of them.

It was a huge advantage for the ca$h-flush Marlies to carry a 30+ roster and able to play fresh for every B2B or 3in3 set.

They've been curtailing Hainsey's minutes so far (thanks to not taking as many penalties), so it's only a matter of time until they start sparing him from starts so he's either fully fresh for the inevitable playoffs, or outplayed entirely by Marincin/Holl to Babcock/DJ Smith's satisfaction.

It's cute that you really believe this might happen.

I am an optimist. Look who's getting a spin on the right side for an eventual move up to Rielly's line...

DJ Smith had a line on the Islander coaching job until Trotz cut ties with the Caps. So fingers crossed Edmonton implodes and needs a new coach that is defensively oriented and has worked well with kids.

Stay gold, hermyboy!

I'd say it's certainly possible that Dermott gets a shot on Rielly's pairing at some point (although personally I'd be moving Rielly to the right side in that event) but I just can't see any possible situation where Hainsey is healthy scratched.

He's getting turnstiled a bit already. Early season rust maybe. He's also nearly Marleau's age and I think his drop-off cliff was partway through last season. Babcock has his favourites but he also wants to win more than anything (Komarov, Martin); if a clear and present better is there, I think he pulls the trigger eventually.

Edit: apparently I'm rehashing old (this morning) news

I can see a switch in ice time distribution, but I'm with CtB. The likelihood of Hainsey being health-scratched is very low.

I hope the Leafs keep them under 3 goals. A wins a win, but I would like to see less against. It would also be nice to see lines 3 and 4 contribute on the scoreboard. What I think will happen, 6-5 Leafs.

Go Leafs Go!
