So Bernier, yeah.  .901 SV% since January 1st.

(Reimer - .906 SV%)

After the way the skaters played in front of them, it's hard to put much stock in those numbers. Neither were great but the team in front of them seemed worse in general.

Also Casey Bailey with 5:36 TOI.  I'm struggling to see what the point of that is.

How about Joffrey Lupul. 0 goals 3 assists in 2015.  That's unbelievable really.  He's tied with Eric Brewer for points as a leaf in 2015

At some point in the second period I noticed Lupul had the puck, and I realized that I had forgotten he was still on the team. I had assumed he was injured or cut or something. He's been a ghost lately.

Leave the corpse of Joffrey Lupul alone.

There is lot of stock in those numbers. Bernier has shown he can not play as a #1

For now. Goalies tend to hit their prime years later than skaters. I'm not concerned with his numbers this year, under this mess of a team.

It's Kessel's fault.

It's part of the problem.  Not entirely on them but the blame goes to each and every single player on this roster and not just Phil Kessel.

I like how he's so willing to give Bernier a free pass because of contextual circumstances but Kessel?  He's a stain on every single other player apparently.

I've stated this several times including to a degree my post above. It's not just Kessel.

You look at the lack of offence among the forwards and who got the PP and scoring ice time and didn't deliver. It isn't the pluggers who are primarily responsible. Kessel, Bozak & JvR have been getting 20 mins or so per game.

Winnick and Santorelli played pretty well and were traded - they were not a problem. Clarkson was a problem but he's gone. Komorov & Lupul got hurt and haven't fully recovered. The coach recently cleared Lupul as still suffering from injury. Kadri most would acknowledge, aside from his suspensions, was continuing to make an effort. Booth has come on but he was hurt and didn't get much of a chance in ice time before. All things considered, I think most would feel Panik & Holland have done ok.

There's only three guys left in the top 12 in forward ice time. Do I need to name them?

Maple Leafs ?least likeable group? ever
Apathy among fans is apparent to the point that empty seats can be found at the Air Canada Centre on most nights

"Part of what?s gone on here is that they?ve managed to produce a team that is not just bad, but appears to not give a damn," Brunt told Boomer and Rhett. "It?s almost rubbing it in people?s faces - the lack of try, the lack of effort."

Brunt is hardly alone with his impression. You guys can carry on making your excuses for that. I'm not buying it.

Reimer, Bernier have led the charge on calling them out for that among the teammates. Phaneuf has. Robidas and Polak did on the defensive part of the game and the coach cleared them with his remarks on their effort. Franson did well until he was traded. Gardiner and Rielly are youngish/developing. That's the top 6 dmen and goalies.

All teammates, the coaches, GM, etc have some sort responsibility for the results.

I don't have as much of a problem with them losing or not being good enough or going through a slump. In 50+ years, I never have. That happens to all teams. It's the way that this team lost - the lack of effort that bothers me. I haven't seen anything like it in 50+ years on this team. And the poster line among the skaters for that was the top line. It's unacceptable and they deserve a mighty kick in the arse - figuratively and literately. To me, they were by far the biggest offenders. And Kessel, for the money he's being paid and trust they gave him with that contract ... it's a disgrace.

The season is lost, the team doesn't want them. The fans want them to lose. Why should they give a damn?

I don't expect perfection. These guys are not robots. I don't expect incredible effort every single game because over an 82 game season, I don't think it can be done. You're going to have some lulls from injury, fatigue, emotional letdown, slump, etc.

And I can see how with four games left, it might be tough after such a long, horrible season to get up for a game. I'm not as concerned now - though they're making better effort now.

But these guys threw in the towel last January and did little until just a couple of games ago. That's too much to overlook. That's beyond a little banged up, fatigue (they'd rested most of the last 40 games!!), etc. There have to be some limits and to me, these guys crossed them quite some time ago.

"Because I want them to" is not a valid answer to my question.

I don't think that's the answer I've given. The coach, the management, the fans and some of the other players on the team have wanted a better effort.

Nice to see that Kessel is a +4 over his last 3 games making him, in the eyes of some posters, a dominant defensive player.
