Leafs @ Sabres - Mar. 13th, 4:00pm - SN, Fan 590

The high hopes I had earlier in the season are really withering.  :-\
The first line is fantastic and the third line looks pretty decent, everything else is concerning.

Another loss to a bottom feeder team. Not a good look.

They could have leapfrogged Tampa into 2nd place with a win, but now they will have to settle for remaining 2 points ahead of Boston with no more games in hand. Boston could pull even with them on Tuesday the way both teams have been playing.

Look, the reffing garbage makes this period just a washout so not much to conclude from that, but they need another goalie.  Mrazek is done with this group.

It's all good folks it's only 1 game.

They just keep losing to bottom feeders like Buffalo, Montreal and Phoenix. While top teams just feed on them, the Leafs can't do anything. So yes it is only 1 game of many and many they should have. They are only 2 points up on Boston and soon will be just trying to hold onto a wild card position. Give them a 10 percent chance of making it out of the first round.

Surely there's gotta be somebody better than Engvall on the farm team.

Dekedastardly what are you saying? What you trying to start. A few on here think he's indispensable. Him and Nylander should take a page from their fellow Swede and contact. Sandin is the smallest of the 3 but isn't afraid of it unlike these 2. That's why I said you don't win with guys like that. When you purposely avoid contact that's a problem.

You mean like Colorado who are 0-2 against Arizona?  It Florida who are 0-2 against Seattle?

I was being sarcastic. Wasn't for the great start we'd be in a heap of trouble.

Leafs will not be struggling to hold onto a wild card. They're 18 points up on CBJ. 23 games to go and 6 it's out of first..

Falling apart in the 3rd against a crappy team in a national matinee.  Not the best look.

Doesn't surprise me.

I will give you credit you said this team wasn?t  good enough all season

The problem with this team is deeper than we think. The goaltending has cost us no doubt. Having said that I always have and still do question the makeup of this core. Do they have what it takes to win 4 series in the playoffs? I don't think so. They should have made some major changes after last season debacle against the putrid Habs. Dubas has built the team with mostly skill but has completely ignored areas that I think are needed to win especially come playoff time. But hey what do I know. Easy to call from my couch.

The optimistic view is that they are within 1 point of the 2-time defending champs.

Ya you are correct but where would TB be or how many more points would they have if Kucherov was healthy all year? On the PP only the guy is unbelievable to watch. Essentially what priced-we is saying was this was supposed to be an easy stretch against weak teams and the Leafs could have made a statement and been right up their with Florida. Frustrating for sure. At this point does it really matter where they finish. Going to be tough regardless where they end up.

They have defensive problems for sure ? they have taken a step back this year for whatever reason ? but the goaltending has been atrocious for 2+ months.  It's actually a testament to how good they are that they haven't sunk like a stone over that period.

The deeper issue is that you are looking at a bonafide sueprstar in his prime (maybe two, if you add Marner) and they cannot waste that by relying on sketchy goaltending.  Mrazek needs to go; he plays a completely wrong style.  They need somebody calm in net.

Unfortunately, I think our best hope is that Jack gets himself together and at least plays halfway competently.

I wasn't happy when I heard the Leafs had signed Mrazek. My son the Red Wings fan has hated him for years......

and I'm in that wagon with my son now. Good lord, he's awful.
