Please.  W/o bothering to go look up their career stats, I am confident in saying that Lupes & JVR are way ahead of them.  But feel free to give me the stats.

Career PPG ratios:

Moulson 0.70
Lupul 0.64
Hodgson 0.57
JVR 0.55

I think for Chris' sake he should give the Sabres a LITTLE respect considering how the Leafs have been playing.

I think we should win still, but I'm in no way confident of that.  The team hasn't been playing well and should, in theory, be even worse with the injuries/suspensions.

You didn't grasp what I said.  I wasn't making a prediction; I was proposing a standard of excellence.  Heck, we could lose 8-0 tonight and all it would prove (by my lights) is that we aren't "legit," not that it was impossible we should lose.

PPG the only relevant measure?

Look, if you and/or Potvin or anybody wants to make the case that you'd rather have Moulson & Hodgson on the Leafs rather than Lupul or JVR, make it.  I sure couldn't.

Nobody's making that point.  The point I'm making is that RIGHT NOW those two are arguably playing as good or better than Lupul and JVR.  YOU made the point that Kessel, JVR and Lupul were, in your own words, "head and shoulders above anyone" on the Sabres.  What's the basis for that argument?  I can accept it for Kessel.

Otherwise, seems like both teams RIGHT NOW are light in the loafers offensively, so to speak.

Exactly. There's no easy wins in this league, regardless of how bad the Sabres are. I mean, they just beat LA the other day, does that mean the Kings need to re-think everything they've done up to that point? Of course not. Buffalo is going to win some games against playoff teams.

If we had at least two of Bozak/Bolland/Kadri I would say anything less than 4 points would be disappointing. Now, I'll be happy with a split.

You're entitled to think that of course, but one game shouldn't make the difference between whether you think we're legit or if this season has been a ruse.

Or this could be the game they pull their socks up and start playing more like that 2nd period in Boston.  But if they play like they have been it will be tough.

It's a bad time to face Buffalo. The players will want to make a good first impression for their new coach/prez, they have somehow beaten the Kings and Sharks in the past 4 games, and over the past 4-5 years they always seem to rise up and play well against the Leafs.

That said, it's important to get these points, preferably 3/4 or 4/4. Everybody else is against Buffalo.

Guys night out so I don't know if I might catch a bit of it or not.  Or even if I want to witness it.
Anyway, I think the teams are very evenly matched with our lack of depth at C and some enthusiasm from Buffalo with their new coach.
Unfortunately I sense we will lose both games as we get through this mess.

No doubt about that.  I just object to the notion that suddenly, with the loss of Kadri, we should lower our expectations against the worst team in the league.

Why not?  This is as good a milestone to pick as any.

Because you shouldn't base that off of any single game.

Well if the player from your team wins, it can boost the energy of your bench, if your players gets beaten badly, it could have a negative effect on your bench.

Except in the hundreds and hundreds of times we've seen fights that did neither, of course.

I have seen fights happen in a game that shifted the momentum into the winning fighters teams favour, even sometimes where the team was down and won the fight and came back to win the game because of the shift.

Sabres will spearchuck the Loafs for sure.. we are not in a position of strength right now. Who ever thought we would miss Tyler Bozak so much?

Hopefully we'll win both and we can live to argue the point closer to the playoffs.

Buffalo must be bad. The Leafs have actually cycled the puck in their zone on more than one occasion already
